The eighteen Young Guns arrive at Las Vegas on a bus heading to Hell's Kitchen, and they drove past the real Hell's Kitchen restaurant. Once it became clear that everyone was young, Steve felt relieved as he feared sleeping next to an older person with a sleep aid. The bus arrived at Hell's Kitchen, where Marino greeted the chefs. Marino explained that Ramsay created a museum to celebrate the past nineteen seasons in honor of the twentieth season. Giving the tour were Shakala and Sean, who led the chefs into the museum. As the chefs toured the museum, they saw photos of past contestants, jackets hung, Hell's Kitchen Wall of Fame, and lines from past seasons. Then, they see video clips of moments from the show. The last stop was an exhibit of the doors used to reveal the winner of each season. Sean said that the final part of the tour was a documentary film about the show's history. However, the curtain pulled back to reveal an audience waiting for them and Ramsay on a stage behind them. Once on stage, Ramsay explained that the museum was meant to showcase the past, while the eighteen of them were the future. Ramsay added that the desire to become a chef was a dream for many young people, and food has evolved over the years since the show began. So, Ramsay announced that the season's winner would become his protégé and become the new Head Chef at Gordon Ramsay Steak at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. Afterwards, Ramsay announced the Signature Dish Challenge and gave the chefs 45 minutes to cook their dishes.

During the Signature Dish Challenge, Steve was the first person from the blue team to have his dish judged by Ramsay and went up against Emily. He told Ramsay he was twenty-one years old and worked as a Chef de Partie at a country club in which Ramsay noted the role was under a Sous Chef. Then, he was asked where his love of food came from. He said he used to be a picky kid and ate nothing but hot dogs and ramen noodles, but he experienced a lot more thanks to his grandmother. Afterwards, he presented his saffron-poached red shrimp with four cheese polenta and stewed tomato broth. Even though Ramsay felt the presentation could have been refined, he liked the sweetness of the broth and called it delicious, which took him aback. He scored 4 points. Later, Ramsay gave him one of Emily's tacos to taste and said he was a vegetarian on Thursdays.

The blue team lost the challenge 28-30, and they were punished by taking in deliveries for ingredients to make stock. During the punishment, he felt they were getting the hang of everything in the kitchen while building a team dynamic. He hoped this was their last punishment.[1]

During the Alcohol Challenge, Steve was making a jerked spiced pork chop as it was a well-received special he made a year and a half ago. He was confident he could win. As the blue team went through the dishes for their Top Three, he sold his pork chop dish to the men, and Kevin favored using his dish as it was cooked perfectly. The rest of the men agreed with Kevin's claim. Then, he felt Antonio's ceviche was nearly inedible. He was a part of the blue team's Top Three and was the second person from the blue team to have his dish judged by Ramsay. He made a jerked spiced pork chop with a callaloo base and a rum pineapple chutney. Ramsay deemed the presentation beautiful and saw the pork was cooked beautifully as well. Ramsay found it delicious and easily picked him as the best of the blue team, going up against Brynn from the red team. In the end, Ramsay decided to award him the Punishment Pass. That made him happy as he knew it would come in handy.

Afterwards, Ramsay gave Steve the power to name the worst three dishes from the blue team. He knew it would not be fun because Ramsay already tore apart Antonio and Matthew's dishes, and he did not think some of his teammate's dishes were up to par. He named Matthew, Antonio, and Alex as the bottom three of the blue team.

During the 300th dinner service, Steve was on the garnish station with Trenton. At one point, he asked Payton for a time on the refire, but the latter gave no response. That frustrated him as he wanted the men to communicate with him. When the blue team was ordered to go into the pantry for a meeting, he knew Ramsay was giving them a chance to bounce back. However, the blue team was eventually kicked out after nobody had an idea of timings or what was going on. The blue team lost the service, and they were asked to nominate two people for elimination.

He was not nominated for elimination.[2]

During the Whole Squid Prep Challenge, Steve dove in on top of Victoria and said he was not a swimmer. He was seen getting two of his attempts accepted. The blue team lost the challenge 14-16, and they were punished by taking in seafood deliveries, breaking down 50 pounds of squid and shrimp, and eating calamari sandwiches. Before doing the punishment, Ramsay asked him if he would use his Punishment Pass. He decided not to use it now, explaining the punishments would get worse moving forward, and he wanted to save it for another time. Ramsay commended him for his mindset. During the punishment, he started to regret his decision but was the only one who enjoyed his meal.

During prep, Jay asked Steve for assistance on garnish as he wanted to know which one paired up with what protein. However, he was unsure of Jay as the latter kept asking questions about the easiest station. During dinner service, he served a tableside appetizer of squid ink tagliatelle. At one point, Trenton came down to ask him for a time, and he said he needed five more minutes. The blue team lost the service after getting kicked out for serving raw chicken. They were asked to nominate two people for elimination.

He was not nominated for elimination.[3]

Back at the dorms, Steve made light of Antonio's six-feet in the hole comment by commenting he was six feet.

During the Paris Hotel Brunch Service Challenge, Steve was at the eggs Benedict station. He knew it was a speed challenge as they must move quickly as one but felt that the timings were not registering with Alex on meat. Then, he was seen getting his entrée accepted. The blue team lost the service, and they were punished by preparing 600 boxes worth of pastries for different Caesar’s locations. Ramsay asked him if he would use his Punishment Pass that time, and he said he would as he busted his ass in the challenge. Ramsay asked him who he would swap places with, and he asked the women who had the better pastry skills. Brynn said she did, but he was reluctant because she already had a Punishment Pass. Still, Brynn was okay with doing the punishment as she wanted to show Ramsay her leadership skills.

As such, Steve joined the red team on their reward. It was a Caesars Entertainment’s Private Jet ride to see locales like the Paris Strip, Hoover Dam, and the Grand Canyon. They also won a staycation at Planet Hollywood’s mega-suite. During the reward, he felt he was the President walking into the private jet with the women and saw the locations Ramsay mentioned. At Planet Hollywood, he started to come out of his shell a bit and joined Keanu and Emily in their robe dance, something Kiya took notice of. He also did a high kick.

During dinner service, Steve was on the appetizer station with Trenton. He was seen communicating with Antonio as he wanted everyone on top of everything. When Alex was sent out of the kitchen for a breather, he temporarily took over garnish. He helped get the first order of entrées out. Both teams were named joint losers, and they were asked to nominate two each. During deliberation, he told Alex they should never wait on garnish as they did earlier.

Steve was not nominated for elimination. After Alex's elimination, he said goodbye to Sam and Payton as they were reassigned to the red team while welcoming Victoria, Emily, and Megan as new teammates.[4]

Episode 5[]

During the Emoji Jacket Challenge, Steve asked Antonio to count his meatballs, which were three. Then, he told Victoria to add parsley to her crab cakes. He was seen cooking spaghetti and meatballs. He was the second person from the blue team to have his dish judged by Ramsay and went up against Morgana. Ramsay noticed he did not toss the pasta into the sauce, even though it was on the recipe. He blamed his teammates for not telling him that, and he lost that round. Even though he felt the blue team’s communication skills proved poor, he knew it was something they could work on. The blue team lost the challenge 2-4, and they were punished by cleaning the Eiffel Tower while wearing French maid outfits. He was not upset, though, as he claimed to wear worse, before mentioning he would rock out his French maid outfit.

During dinner service, Steve was at the fish station. He was not seen much, except for when Ramsay pushed him to become vocal. The blue team won the service.[5]

Episode 6[]

The following day, the chefs got up as the blue team did a freestyle rap, though Steve could not get past the first lyric. When Ramsay showed pictures of the chefs from the internet, a picture of him in a teddy bear costume for Halloween. During the Megan 21st Planning Challenge, he made one of the three appetizers for the blue team. He was the first person from the blue team to have his dish judged and went up against Kiya. He made sesame-crusted salmon niçoise salad. It was deemed too buried for Megan's liking despite finding the salmon cooked well, and he lost that round to Kiya. The blue team won the challenge after a tie at three each. They were rewarded with a flow riding experience on the roof of Planet Hollywood and lunch proved by Café Hollywood. He asked what the red team was up to during the reward, but Trenton knew they were busting their ass on the punishment.

During the Megan 21st dinner service, Steve was at the meat station with Megan. As the blue team worked on their half of Megan's table, he noted the pressure as they must be on their game, which is slim. While he got his steaks accepted, Ramsay mistakenly praised Megan until the latter corrected him. The blue team won the service.[6]

Episode 7[]

Main article: Episode 2007 - Young Guns: If You Can't Stand the Heat...

Before the International Cuisine Challenge, Steve was the only one that said he did not like soccer as he preferred bowling. He said goodbye to Antonio as the latter was reassigned to the red team. He picked Chinese cuisine. He was the first person from the blue team to have his dish judged and went up against Josie. He made an orange-glazed duck breast over duck fat fried rice and vegetable stir fry. It was praised for having a perfect cook and good flavors, though Michael Cimarusti felt it was too sweet. He scored that round over Josie. The blue team lost the challenge 2-4. They were punished by prepping the dining room for that night’s service, including ironing the tablecloths, polishing the silverware, and polishing the glasses.

During dinner service, Steve was at the meat station with Trenton. On their first entrée order, he and Trenton worked on the lamb. Despite the rocky start, he said he and Trenton were powerhouses and had a spare lamb prepped. However, Kevin's slowdown on the salmon led to their lamb coming out overcooked. Then, Kevin did not respond to his calls for times. Both teams were named joint winners. While being dismissed, he thought they were growing stronger as the weaker chefs were gone and knew the competition would get tougher.[7]

Episode 8[]

While going back to the dorms, Steve said it was sad to lose Kevin during dinner service, but he knew that the latter lost it, and it was time for him to go. As he gave his teammates high fives as they entered the dorm, he gave Antonio one when the latter asked.

During the Relay Challenge, Steve and Megan were the first pair to enter the blue kitchen. They started to prep the proteins as he thought they would be ready by the final round. In the fourth round, a timer went off, but neither he nor Victoria knew what it was for. The blue team lost the challenge 1-3. They were punished by participating in Recycling Day, which included sorting through the trash. During the punishment, he saw discarded food items from the previous challenges and services and felt they were assaulting their nostrils.

Later that day, Ramsay held one-on-one meetings with the chefs. Steve was the seventh person to have his meeting. Ramsay told him to back up his proteins with a voice. As more chefs went to the patio and put on colored sweaters, they talked about their experiences with each other. He felt a weird aura while speaking with Ramsay and said he had amazing eyes. He did not compete in the Cook For Your Life Challenge. Back at the dorms, the safe chefs watched the challenge through a Livestream, and he said it was the first time they watched TV.[8]

Episode 9[]

Back at the dorms, Trenton and Steve were waiting intently on who was entering going through the dorms.

During the Spells Kitchen Challenge, Steve went up against Kiya in the third round of part one. He got broccoli and placed it on the blue team's veal chop. Then, he unscrambled button mushrooms and put them on the ribeye. He cooked the veal chop and was responsible for presenting the blue team's collective dish. He was the final person from the blue team to have his dishes judged by Ramsay and went up against the pair of Sam and Josie. He made a veal chop with grilled broccoli slaw and purple potato puree, and it scored a point. Then, he presented the blue team's sage-dusted veal chop with broccoli puree. It was deemed bliss, and they scored a point. The blue team won the challenge 6-3, and he was proud that Ramsay loved all their dishes because they put themselves on the plates. The blue team was rewarded with a private hot tub from Drai's Beach Club at the Cromwell Hotel. During the reward, he saw Trenton let loose as the latter rarely got a chance to leave Hell's Kitchen, but he let Trenton have his moment.

During the Charity Night dinner service, Steve was in charge of the mushroom risotto course. He led his team well on cooking his dish, and they were sent out with no problems. Both teams were named joint losers, and they were asked to nominate two each. During deliberation, he agreed with Trenton on nominating Victoria.

He was not nominated for elimination.[9]

Episode 10[]

Main article: Episode 2010 - Young Guns: More Than a Sticky Situation

Before the Blind Taste Test, Steve was skeptical about the promised documentary and wondered if another audience group was hiding behind the curtain. He was the first person to compete and went up against Antonio. He only got green beans, resulting in Megan getting the caramel corn and the nacho punishments. During Trenton's turn, he got the caramel corn and the nacho punishments.

The blue team won the challenge 9-6, and they were rewarded with a party bus drive to the Brooklyn Bowling alley. That exciting Steve as he loved bowling, but Brynn used her Punishment Pass on him and took his spot. He was pissed but understood why Brynn did so because he took away her private jet reward weeks ago. So, he joined the red team in their punishment: cleaning up the dining room and resetting it for that night’s service. As Steve awaited the punishment with the red team, he asked if he should act like Brynn and cry. He did so in a fake way and told Kiya he would have to punch himself in the dick to cry for real. During the punishment, he complained about picking up crumbs by hand instead of vacuuming and said he was getting pissed off. Sam knew that he had every right to be angry as Brynn stole his reward.

During dinner service, Steve was at the appetizer station. He was still mad about the punishment, felt Brynn’s strategy worked and went silent on the blue team by not answering Megan’s questions. That concerned Megan as getting off to a poor start was not what they needed. He served a dry risotto, leaving Sous Chef Jason to come to appetizers and show him a reminder. Ramsay told him he needed a rich risotto, while Trenton did not want a rocky start. Steve got his refire accepted, but Sous Chef Jason said he did not expect that from him. On Gabriel Iglesias' order, he was the only one that stood around and did nothing. Seeing that, Ramsay took him to the pantry room for a one-on-one talk. Ramsay did not know what was wrong with him as the most talented and accurate chef in the competition was not bouncing back. Ramsay told him that he needed more vigor from him before warning him to hand over his jacket if he did not want this. Inspired by Ramsay’s comment, he said he wanted it and knew the former wanted more from him. Refusing to let that day define him, he went back to the kitchen and started communicating with the blue team.

Both teams were named joint winners, and Megan was named the "Best of the Best" for the blue team. During deliberation, Steve told Megan to weigh her options carefully as he wanted her to think about the team. Still, he was ready to fight for his life, while Megan admitted he was a strong but quiet chef.

Steve was Megan's nominee for elimination and joined Josie from the red team. During his plea, he passionately called his poor performance a fluke as everyone knew that, and he promised to fire in all cylinders. He survived elimination, and Ramsay told him he would accept a fluke as everyone played that card in the past. While being dismissed, he said it was time to stand above the rest as any mistake he made could send him home. But at the same time, he warned everyone he was still a threat.[10]

Episode 11[]

Back at the dorms, Emily told Steve that she knew he was not going home over Josie and was happy he was still here. He thought being nominated was a good thing because it lit a fire under his ass, and he knew he had no more chances after that night. Megan and Emily reassured Steve that he is a strong chef despite a rough night. Antonio said he had faith Steve would survive.

Before the Protein Match App Challenge, Steve commented that his dating profile gets the job done. He cooked the lobster and went up against Brynn. During part one, he swiped right for tequila after multiple rejects. Brynn picked Thai chilli pepper, but he said he did not like that ingredient and decided to get back at her. So, he picked dill weed, aggravating Brynn. During the cooking, he chose caviar and found it the most expensive ingredient on the tray. When Richard Blais came in as a guest judge, he deemed the latter cool and was excited to hear his critiques. He was the first person from the blue team to have his dish judged and presented his grilled lobster basted in caviar butter with caramelized sautéed snow peas and dill. Blais told him that he nailed the dish as the caviar added a solid flavour, and he tied that round with Brynn. When the score was tied at two each, Blais picked his dish as the best overall. The blue team won the challenge, and he felt he was striking hard again.

The blue team was rewarded with a spa day at the Qua & Bath Spa on the Vegas strip and received Vitamix blenders. As the blue team raced back to the dorms, Steve hoped a Vitamix blender was waiting for them. Fortunately, he was correct. During the reward, he loved the eucalyptus aroma. When they received a 24k gold facial mask, he felt expensive. Later, the blue team received pedicures as he toasted to not doing the punishment.

During the Steak Night dinner service, Steve was at the fish station. The blue team was firing entrées as he and Emily communicated on timings. However, Emily did not sear the steaks until Ramsay pointed it out, and he feared his salmon would be ruined as it would take longer than six minutes for a proper sear. He brought up his entrées, but the salmon was overcooked. Ramsay reminded them that a steak takes longer to cook than a salmon and order the two to be in sync. Later, he looked to Emily on the refire as he knew Ramsay was giving them a second chance and did not want to ruin it. So, he had Megan help Emily with the steaks. The blue team won the service. After elimination, he saw the red team drowning in the dirt.[11]

Episode 12[]

Main article: Episode 2012 - Young Guns: All Hell Breaks Loose

When watching Leeloo's balloon performance, Steve felt his back hurt watching her and said he would get claustrophobic entering the balloon. During the first Black Jackets Challenge, he got New York striploin, potatoes, broccolini, Cipollini onions, and pancetta. During the cooking, he seasoned his steak with pepper. However, Sous Chef Jason warned him not to overseason it with big chunks of peppercorn, so he took the big parts off the steak. He said there was a lot on the line as only two dishes would be on a resort menu and the fact black jackets were on the line. Fortunately, his steak was cooked perfectly. He was the second person to have his dish judged, knew Trenton set the bar high with his dish and hoped to surpass that. He showed his peppercorn-crusted New York strip with a lemon endive broccolini on top of a potato and pancetta hash. While the cook was great and it was visually appealing, Jason Shkorupa found there was too much pepper on the plate. Because he used both black peppercorn and Szechuan peppercorn, Ramsay said there was a lot of heat coming from the flavor. He beated himself for the mistake and hoped it did not stop him from getting a black jacket. He lost the challenge to Trenton and Brynn and had to compete in the second challenge.

During the second Black Jackets Challenge, Steve rolled an R and picked rice. During the cooking, he decided to mix his truffles into his risotto. He wanted a black jacket more than anything, only for Sous Chef Jason to warn him about his burning garlic. He was the third person to have his dish judged by Ramsay. He thought his plate looked nice and creative when he went up, hoping it was worthy of a black jacket. He made a fennel-dusted tuna on top of a tomato truffle risotto and shaved turnip salad. It had thinly sliced tuna, which resulted in tears. Still, Ramsay found the cook beautiful and the salad refreshing. He lost the challenge to Megan and Kiya and had to compete in the final challenge.

Before the final Black Jackets Challenge, Steve received a video message from his parents and sister. After seeing that, he was prepared to dump his heart on the plate. He decided to make shrimp and grits during the cooking as they were his grandmother's favorite and felt her spirit inside him. He wanted to make her proud as she inspired him to cook. He was the final person to have his dish judged by Ramsay and felt 100% confident as the dish was all of him. He revealed his blackened grilled shrimp and grits, explaining that it was his grandmother's favorite dish, which was why he was there. Ramsay found the shrimp cooked beautifully, but he wanted more acid on the grits. Still, the dish had a great impact. He won the final black jacket as Ramsay deemed his dish the best he made in the competition as hit showed depth and passion. Steve called it the best moment in his life and said he could not have done so without his grandmother. His entrance into the black jacket lounge was well-received as Kiya waited for him to come through the doors. Brynn knew he deserved it as he put on his black jacket, saying he waited for one for a long time. As the final five celebrated, he felt that he made it as the final five celebrate in the lounge.[12]

Episode 13[]

After the celebration end, the newly minted black jackets went back to the dorms as Steve saw Brynn bring back a bottle of champagne. Once inside, the final five were surprised to find brand new Al-Clad cookware as gifts. Later that evening, he tried to cut into a hard mango despite Brynn telling him not to. Kiya jokingly told Brynn to know her future husband more. Brynn explained that she and he had a flirtatious relationship growing in the last couple of weeks, and Megan jokingly suggested having Ramsay officiate their wedding.

During the Presentation Challenge, Steve cooked a white fish as it was easy to make pop on a plate, but admitted he was intimidated by the challenge. Then, he felt Kiya would struggle due to growing up in a small town. He was the second person to have his dish judged and presented his blood orange and fennel poached haddock with glazed vegetable puree and blood orange Berblanc. It had a lot of white going on, and while the fish and the Berblanc tasted well, Ludo Lefebvre said he wanted more of the latter. Ramsay found the puree grainy, and he scored 6 points. After the online voting was done, his dish ranked last, and he finished with 7 points. He wanted to take the criticism to heart and try better.

Steve lost the challenge to Trenton, but the latter picked him to come on the reward with him. He sheepishly thanked Trenton and said it made up for his sleep farting. The two had a VIP tour of Hell's Kitchen in Caesars Palace, with Season 17 winner Michelle giving it. Also, they had a private meatball masterclass from Rao's Frankie Pellegrino JR. and won brand new Oxo coffee makers. During the reward, he felt the energy of the Hell's Kitchen restaurant. At Rao's, he loved the meatballs.

During dinner service, Steve was at the meat station. He was stunned at how in sync Megan and Kiya were and called them the Wonder Twins. On entrées, he got his lamb accepted and walked up his meat before Trenton was ready on garnish. In the following order, he was late responding to Ramsay as he knew he had to prove himself after the Presentation Challenge. He announced that the first round of Wellingtons was resting, but Ramsay said he did not directly tell him. Kiya knew Ramsay wanted eye contact and felt he could not do it. He argued that he was projecting his voice, but he did not respond to Brynn for a walking time, much to her frustration. When the proteins went up to the pass, Ramsay pulled him down. Ramsay showed him there was one Wellington that was medium and another medium-well. He felt a fire under his ass and wanted to impress Ramsay with his bounce back. It worked as the refire was accepted.

After service, Ramsay asked the final five to name two people for elimination. During deliberation, Trenton told Steve that despite stepping up and being solid, he did not think he could run a restaurant due to his reserve nature. He argued that he was pushing it that night and only spoke up when needed. He was shocked that Trenton nominated him when the latter was quiet on fish.

Steve was the second nominee for elimination, with Brynn as the first. During his plea, Ramsay called him the most consistent chef that season and his finesse was extraordinary for his age. He cooked with confidence, and he had the swagger. However, Ramsay doubted his voice and asked why he should stay. He called Ramsay his inspiration and wanted to be molded into a great chef. While he admitted to being quiet, he said he was mentally strong and called himself a rock. However, Ramsay said that him switching off looked like he did not care and asked how to fix that. He admitted he had no answer and wanted to learn that. Ultimately, he was eliminated for his quiet personality as it would not fit a head chef position. Before leaving, Ramsay told him he would have a great career as his attitude was solid, he never complained, and he always came back fighting. Ramsay told him his door would be open for him and allowed him to keep his jacket. As he left, Ramsay thanked him for being a worthy competitor. During his exit interview, he received a retrospective montage of his time on the show. He received the portrait burning sequence at the end of the episode.

Ramsay's comment: "Steve still has a lot to learn. Unfortunately tonight, he learned that silence in the kitchen isn't golden; it's goodbye."[13]

Steve was one of the seven chefs that returned for the final dinner service. He watched the Final Menu Challenge alongside the others. He was Megan's first pick and was followed by Victoria, Emily, and Josie. He was thrilled to be Megan’s first pick and said he would make sure she won.[14] Back at the dorms, he reassured Megan that they had her back.

During prep, Megan asked Steve to help Josie and Victoria out. Still, he said that Megan being nice was something he had not seen before and hoped she turned off the bubbly attitude. During dinner service, he was at the fish station. At one point, he walked up his scallops during appetizers. On entrées, he and Josie swapped stations after the latter struggled on the ribeyes. He felt Megan succeeded as a leader and got his ribeyes accepted. Megan eventually lost the finale to Trenton.[15]

  • "Fortunately, I'm 6'4"."

  • (About the French maid outfits during a punishment) "I mean, I don't get embarrassed, I'm gonna rock this shit confidently. I'll be the cutest French maid they got!"

  • (When up for elimination) "Tonight was a fluke. It doesn't define me as a chef. You know that, I know that, everybody behind me knows this. I can guarantee you that when I come back, I promise you that I'll be firing in at 6th gear. I'm firing on all cylinders and I'm ready to kick ass and take some initials 'cause names take too long to fucking write down."
  • (After being eliminated) "It's bittersweet. I came here to learn as much as possible from chef Ramsay. I definitely feel like I learned so much. Chef Ramsay has definitely boosted my confidence a whole hell of a lot. I definitely had a good time. And I'm super grateful for the experience. Overall, Hell's Kitchen has meant the world to me. I know I made Grandma proud. You know, she's the whole reason I'm here, so I know she was looking down watching the whole time. And I know she's happy, so that's cool.
