The eighteen new chefs arrived in Los Angeles in two separate limos heading to Hell's Kitchen. The limos arrived at Hell's Kitchen, where Marino was waiting for them. Marino greeted the chefs and introduced them to their Sous Chefs Christina and Jason. They explained that there would be obstacles, but you can't let them get in your way. Later, Ramsay was on a monster truck and crashed into a car, shocking the contestants. Ramsay used it as an example of not letting anything get in your way. Ramsay explained like how the limos got them where they wanted to go, he wanted a chef to take him where he wanted to go. Ramsay was questioning whether to hire a chef in their 20s or a chef in their 40s and told them that this season would be a battle of the ages. Ramsay told the contestants to separate between a group of 20s and a group of 40s. Ramsay announced the Signature Dish Challenge and gave the chefs 45 minutes to cook their dishes.
During the Signature Dish Challenge, Sommer made her stewed salmon based on her Jamaican background. However, she decided to add coconut jasmine rice despite never making it before and added sugar to it. When Ramsay announced the grand prize, she felt Atlantic City was up to her element since it's close to New York. She was the last person from the red team to have her dish judged by Ramsay and went up against Billy. She said her nickname was "VIP" due to a comment she made in her first job about a ticket order and presented her stewed salmon with coconut rice. She revealed she added sugar to the rice, but Ramsay felt it tasted more like general admission than VIP. It was too sweet for Ramsay's liking, and he had no choice but to give Sommer's dish a one. The red team won the challenge after a tiebreaker at 31, and they were rewarded with a dinner cruise with Chef Ramsay.[1]
During the Creative Chicken Wing Challenge, Sommer wanted redemption as she made a sweet and spicy chicken wing. When Sous Chef Christina tasted her dish, she wondered if her dish was too salty after seeing the former take some water. She lost the challenge as she was not called as the top three.
Sommer was at the appetizer station during dinner service with Dafne. She was not seen much that night except for telling Ileana and Alyssa to stop arguing. The red team won the service.[2]
Episode 3[]
- Main article: Episode 2103 - Clawing Your Way to the Top
The following morning, Sommer felt that the blue team disliked Billy due to his attitude, but she found it a good advantage for the red team to exploit.
During the Whole Lobster Prep Challenge, Sommer was confident she could break a lobster down as she did it back home. When the red team had to drop two dishes, she wondered if she should drop hers as she did not get everything. By the end of the discussion, she and Alyssa were excluded from the judging. However, neither was happy with the decision. Dismayed by that, Ramsay gave the red team ten more seconds to review their decision. Immediately, she told Ileana that although the latter had everything on the board, it looked butchered, while she had everything but the legs. As such, the red team swapped her in place of Ileana, She was the fifth person from the red team to have her attempt judged, but she failed to score to having no legs. While she knew she shot herself in the foot that day, she argued that she at least stood for what she believed in.
The red team won the challenge 6-5, and they were rewarded with driving European Sports Cars. When the red team had a meeting, Sommer defended her call to switch places with Ileana, but the latter was still mad that she was cast aside due to her previous challenge performances. Then, she rudely told Alyssa to keep her opinions to herself, and the latter retorted that she gave her attitude no matter what she said.
During dinner service, Sommer was at the fish station with Ileana. At one point, neither she nor Ileana responded to Alejandro, frustrating him as fish was supposed to be an easy station. When Alejandro got his risotto up to the pass, she realized they had forgotten to fire a second lobster tail. Ramsay was unhappy that she forgot to fire two lobster tails, as that was basic cooking. Ileana got frustrated working alone without her help, and when she walked up the lobster tails, one of them was raw. A frustrated Ramsay took the dishes and walked the red team into the pantry to scold them for shutting down, deeming her and Ileana pathetic. On entrées, she got angry when Ileana left her nothing to cook, but the latter found her a backseat driver. Ramsay got frustrated that nobody was leading the fish station and ordered them to sort it out.
The red team won the service. Later that night, Ramsay called both teams back downstairs and announced that come the following day, the battle of the sexes would resume. Sommer said goodbye to Alejandro, Brett, Sakari, and Vlad and welcomed Mindy, Nicole, and Tara as new teammates.[3]
Episode 4[]
- Main article: Episode 2104 - Slipping Down to Hell
Back at the dorms, Sommer was doubtful of her new teammates as she had yet to see them cook.
During the first part of the Creative Sliders Challenge, Sommer tried not to panic as she put blue cheese on the lamb slider board. That bemused the men and Ramsay, but she defended her choice as champagne was made by accident. The red team finished the fastest, and they received a five-minute head start. During part two, she and Nicole made beef sliders. Despite being confident that her beef sliders had the right elements, her dish was not chosen for judging. Still, she did not want to have a repeat with the Whole Lobster Prep Challenge and hoped she made the right decision. The red team lost the challenge 14-16, and a curious Ramsay asked her to bring up her beef sliders with bacon on top of the buns and pickled onions. It was praised for having the crunch factor, but that led her to ask why she did not stick up for herself as she normally did.
The red team was punished by prepping potatoes for fries needed for the following service. As the women returned to the dorms, Sommer felt terrible for second-guessing herself and began to have a meltdown. She said she did not want to let the team down after her mistake on the lobster as the rest of the women tried to calm her down. When the women role-played a service, she accused Nicole of knowing nothing.
During dinner service, Sommer was at the meat station with Alyssa. She tried to lead Alyssa to help her with meat, but the latter did not think she was helping her at all. When the meat entrées were walked up, the lamb came out raw. A fuming Ramsay took the women into the pantry for a meeting, said he struggled to cut into the raw lamb and did not know where to go, as she and Alyssa clearly gave up. One and a half hours into dinner service, the women got their following order, while she wanted the new red team to win.
The red team lost the service, and they were asked to nominate three each. During deliberation, Sommer knew Ramsay wanted the weakest chef overall and felt Dafne had stronger services that night. Dafne argued that she did fine initially, and she knew it was the former's first time struggling at a service. Then, Cheyenne believed Ramsay would like to see the meat station nominated, meaning her and Alyssa. Ileana agreed with Cheyenne, but she felt she had no communication from Alyssa.
She was not nominated for elimination.[4]
Episode 5[]
- Main article: Episode 2105 - Breakfast 911
Sommer was at the appetizer station during the Emergency Workers Breakfast Service Challenge. She refused to have anyone help her as she wanted to handle the appetizers alone. Still, Sous Chef Christina reminded her that it was a speed challenge. Then, Ileana told Alyssa to help her out with the salads, but the latter felt that her attitude was unnecessary when she kept barking orders. Still, she managed to get her salads out. After the red team completed their final order, she rang the bell to claim their victory. The red team was rewarded with a Hollywood Hills party at a local mansion with a Korean Mexican fusion cooked by Kogi. As the women went upstairs, she said they needed it as it would build momentum.
During dinner service, Sommer was at the fish station with Cheyenne. She was not seen that night, and the red team won the service.[5]
Episode 6[]
- Main article: Episode 2106 - Til Chef Do Us Part
Before the Trenton and Macee Wedding Planning Challenge, Sommer revealed herself as one of the five chefs that was not married. During the cooking, she felt pressured to cook for Trenton and Macee, but she decided to do a blackened halibut and give them the VIP treatment. She cooked the seafood entrée, she was the fifth person from the red team to have her dish judged, and she went up against Abe. She made a VIP blackened halibut with bacon collard greens and bacon cream. It screamed Southernly, and she scored that round over Abe. The red team lost the challenge 2-4, and they were punished by making a six-tiered Bailey's Irish cream cake for the wedding.
During the Trenton and Macee Wedding service, Sommer was at the meat station with Mindy. When they sent up their meat entrées, their chicken was raw. On their half of the main table, she did not want to mess it up, but her chicken came out raw. That made Ramsay deem her one of the three woman chefs that failed him due to her struggles with the chicken. Although she got the chicken refire accepted, the red team was kicked out of the kitchen due to an overcooked steak. Both teams were named joint losers, and they were asked to nominate two each. During deliberation, Dafne and Ileana scolded her for rushing the proteins to the pass, but she claimed that it would be her final night of failing.
Sommer was the red team's second nominee for elimination, with Alyssa as their first. They joined Billy and Abe from the blue team. During her plea, she felt she was determined and did not give up. She survived elimination and while being dismissed, she was relieved to survive elimination, but she vowed never to let that happen again.[6]
Episode 7[]
- Main article: Episode 2107 - Wok This Way
During the Dome Challenge, Sommer grabbed flat iron steak, lotus root, rice noodles, and anchovies for her dish. She was seen shoving Ileana aside for a good ingredient and planned on using her anchovies for a broth. She was the second person from the red team to have her dish judged, and she went up against Abe. She made a flat iron steak with lotus root and rice noodles. It was praised for the fried component and having a good amount of heat, and she scored that round. Afterwards, she said she was growing stronger and knew she was improving.
The red team won the challenge 4-2, and they were rewarded with a rooftop dance party and brand-new HexClad sets. Sommer said they needed it, but Alejandro decided to use his Punishment Pass on her, and she was forced to join the blue team on their punishment: prepping beets for a beetroot risotto for a special that night. She was unhappy as she scored a point for her team and felt she deserved the reward. As she ranted at Alejandro for crossing her, she rejected Abe's attempt to calm down. That led them to bicker about her attitude, as Abe did not want her to spoil the men's morale. At the dorms, she wanted to talk about the argument she and Abe had, but the latter felt she was still mad. She told Abe not to talk down to her, but the latter felt that her attitude was why the women disliked her. The arguing annoyed the rest of the men as Abe coldly welcomed her to the men's side. During the punishment, she found the beet-related puns annoying and wanted to see a man go home even more.
During dinner service, Sommer was at the garnish station. When Mindy and Tara struggled to communicate with each other, she felt the two older women were not performing well at services. When Ileana served cold Wellingtons, she was unhappy that they were messing up on their final ticket and felt the former had dropped the ball too many times. Although both teams were named joint winners, Ramsay still asked them to nominate two each. During deliberation, she nominated Ileana and Mindy, the latter for shutting down multiple times on different stations. When Cheyenne mentioned the possibility of nominating Tara instead of Ileana, she wondered if she should change her vote.
She was not nominated for elimination.[7]
Episode 8[]
- Main article: Episode 2108 - Game On!
During the Game Meat Challenge, Sommer correctly guessed pomegranate in the Kitchen Sightmares game and kept it for the women's duck. During the cooking, she cooked the duck alone due to the red team being short a person, and because of that, she had her dish up for judging by default. She was the second person from the red team to have her dish judged, and she went up against Abe. She made a seared duck with pomegranate reduction. It was cooked beautifully, and she scored that round over Abe. The red team won the challenge 2-1, and they were rewarded with a bowling trip at Lucky Strike Hollywood and lunch provided by Vinny Dotolo and Jon Shook. Back at the dorms, she tried to comfort Tara when the latter was upset at Alex for using his Punishment Pass on her, but Tara accused the younger women of trying to get her out. She felt Tara was getting inside her head as she did not want to see the former feel left out, and she told everyone what Tara said.
Because Sommer had her dish judged earlier, she did not participate in the Cook For Your Life Challenge.[8]
Episode 9[]
- Main article: Episode 2109 - Putting the Carne in Carnival
Before the Creative Steak Challenge, Sommer welcomed Brett as a new teammate. During part one, she went up against Alex on the filet mignon round, and they played basketball. She beat Alex 10-8 thanks to her skills in the game and won a five-minute head start over the former. She was the final person from the red team to have her dish judged by Ramsay and made a spice-rubbed filet with smashed fingerlings and red wine demi sauce. The dish was praised for the sauce component, but Ramsay warned her not to add too much cheese to her spinach as it got mushy. Still, she scored that round over Alex and the red team won the challenge 3-2. They were rewarded with an overnight trip to the Paradise Point hotel in San Diego, where they stayed in the Presidential suite and rode jet skis. During the reward, her driving scared Cheyenne.
During the Steak Night dinner service, Sommer was at the appetizer station with Cheyenne. At one point, she was seen getting her appetizers accepted. Both teams were named joint losers, and they were asked to nominate two each. During deliberation, she nominated Brett and Dafne for elimination.
Sommer was not nominated. When Ramsay asked why Tara was nominated, she explained that the latter shut down when she got flustered.[9]
Episode 10[]
- Main article: Episode 2110 - Everyone's Taco'ing About It
When the red team returned to the dorms, Sommer wanted to have a team meeting to discuss what happened at the Elimination Ceremony. Once together, she told Tara she did not give up on her as a teammate, but she knew the latter tended to get flustered in services.
During the Creative Taco Challenge, Sommer cooked the chicken tacos and was the first person from the red team to have her dish judged. She went up against Alex and was excited to show Danny Trejo her jerk chicken tacos with Caribbean salsa. Trejo liked the guacamole component and the spice, with Ramsay finding the spice spot on. She tied that round with Alex. The red team won the challenge after a tie at three each, and they were rewarded with playing in Zorb balls, eating gourmet tacos, and receiving brand-new Vitamix blenders. During the reward, she said they looked like drunk hamsters going down the hill in the Zorb balls. During lunch, she called it a true VIP experience.
During dinner service, Sommer was at the garnish station. She was seen teaching Brett how to poach the lobster tail and continued to lead him on fish as she told the latter to season the scallops, which Cheyenne took notice of. Then, she told Brett to take the skewers out of the lobster tails before going up to the pass. When the red team worked on their final tickets, she knew the red team must be fast and perfect. The red team won the service.
During the Elimination Ceremony, Sommer said goodbye to Brett as the latter was reassigned to the blue team. While being dismissed, she was shocked that Ramsay called Brett's name as she thought the latter was going home, knowing it was time to buckle up.[10]
Episode 11[]
- Main article: Episode 2111 - 21st Annual Blind Taste Test
During the Blind Taste Test, Sommer was the third chef from the red team to compete and she went up against Brett. She failed to get a single ingredient correct, and Tara suffered all three punishments. During Cheyenne's turn, she received the alfredo sauce punishment. The red team won the challenge 5-4, and they were rewarded with a trip to Horses of Hollywood for horseback riding and an Italian picnic.
During the Charity Night dinner service, Sommer served the lobster during the risotto course, but they were clumped together, and Ramsay asked where the standards went. She was in charge of the pan-roasted filet with shaved truffles, and Ramsay told her and Alex to prepare their filet course in ten minutes. She delegated positions in the red kitchen, which impressed Cheyenne as she trusted her. Then, she told Tara and Cheyenne to pull off ready steaks and said that anything she failed to spot was on her. She got her course out, and afterwards, Marino went up to the pass and told her that the red table enjoyed her steaks.
After service, Ramsay named Sommer the "Best of the Best" for the red team due to her being the most vocal of the woman. She was tasked with holding private meetings to help decide on two nominees for elimination. During deliberation, Tara told her that she helped everywhere that night, but the only mishap she had was the lobsters. She thought Tara did not delegate plating the risotto, but the latter argued that she did. Still, Tara knew she would be a nominee due to being the outsider of the women and told her it was her call. Then, she told Cheyenne that she could have delegated better on the plating, but the latter did not think she was weak because she was consistent in services. Lastly, Dafne felt she was a strong course, but she said it was a hard decision as every course had a minor mistake. Dafne refused to believe she was a weak cook due to keeping her composure, but she felt the former was disorganized leading the scrambled egg course. While she struggled with her decision, she knew what must be done as she left to gather her thoughts. She told Brett she had no idea who to nominate and said it sucked to be in that position.
Sommer nominated Tara and Dafne for elimination.[11]
Episode 12[]
- Main article: Episode 2112 - What in Hell's Kitchen?
At the dorms, Sommer asked Dafne if there were any hard feelings about nominating her. Dafne said she was not upset, but the former secretly believed she would throw anyone under the bus. The following day, the Sous Chefs had the chefs prepare a display for some guests Ramsay invited. Once everything was ready, everyone saw skydivers drop down from the sky and land on the purple carpet they laid out. Ramsay introduced the chefs to the HK Fliers and revealed that they brought an important message to them. They turned around to show letters that spelt black jackets, exciting everyone as it meant the Black Jackets Challenge had arrived.
During the first Black Jackets Challenge, Sommer decided to cook her mother’s curried chicken and cut open the bone for the marrow so she could use it for her gravy. She was the first chef to have her dish judged by Ramsay. As she went up, she recalled the one she got on her Signature Dish due to not feeling confident in the kitchen. Still, she thought she knew what she was doing and presented her curried chicken drumsticks with bone marrow-flavored gravy. Ramsay loved the rustic charm of the dish, and he was amazed that she used the bone marrow on the gravy as it packed a punch. She won the first black jacket as her dish was exceptional thanks to the bone marrow component. She thanked her mother for helping her get to that point and said she could boast about being the first black jacket chef of the season. After Dafne won the second black jacket, they were sent back to the dorms and arrived at the Black Jackets Lounge to relax for the day. She was stunned that she had a black jacket on her body.
During the second Black Jackets Challenge, Dafne and Sommer saw the challenge live. They continued to see the livestream until it was cut off after the cooking ended. She welcomed Alejandro and Alex after they won their black jackets. During the third Black Jackets Challenge, Ramsay asked her to come downstairs alone, making her wonder if she had another challenge to do. Once downstairs, Ramsay asked her to taste the three pork dishes in front of her. However, Ramsay did not tell her who cooked what. The first dish she tasted was Sakari’s dish. She liked the sweetness of the sauce as it paired well with the pork. Then, Ramsay gave her Cheyenne’s dish. She found it dry, and afterwards, she tasted Tara’s dish. She found it visually the best of the three dishes, and it had a better cook than Cheyenne’s dish. After tasting the dishes, she voted for Sakari’s dish as the flavors had a better balance. After Cheyenne won the final black jacket, the final five celebrated their milestone as Ramsay gave them two plane tickets to go anywhere courtesy of Allegiant Airlines. She was grateful to be in the fab five, but she gunned for the Super VIP of the competition by winning the competition.[12]
Episode 13[]
- Main article: Episode 2113 - The Fab Five Take Flight
Later that evening, everyone gathered in the dining room and began talking about the Covid-19 Pandemic. Sommer asked Alex what had happened to him as she recalled that he had a restaurant before coming to Hell’s Kitchen.
During the King of the Hill Challenge, Sommer picked flight number 23 and got Key West, Florida. She said she ate a lot of seafood in Florida and felt confident as she had cooked a lot of fish before. During the cooking, she found mahi-mahi, rum, and tropical fruits in her bag, relieving her as she was used to cooking with those ingredients due to her Jamaican background. Cheyenne noticed those ingredients were similar to what she cooked in the competition, and the former hoped she would whoop her ass. She was the third chef to have her dish judged and presented her Caribbean-inspired mahi-mahi. Although it did not have the citrus flavor Michael Cimarusti hoped for, Ramsay said the dish screamed Florida and loved what she did with the mahi-mahi. Dafne knew that she shot it out of the park, and she dethroned Alex. She lost the challenge after Cheyenne dethroned her.
Cheyenne picked Sommer to come on her reward: an offroad trip through the Los Angeles canyons and a complete OXO cooking set. During the reward, Sommer was a little nervous despite loving extreme vehicles and drove too fast, causing the vehicle to flip when she tried to turn the corner. Fortunately, both were okay, and Cheyenne thought she could have had another turn. When she and Cheyenne returned from their reward, they told the others about their accident. However, Alejandro got annoyed by how loud she spoke, leading Cheyenne to comment on their beef.
During dinner service, Sommer was at the appetizer station with Alejandro. After Ramsay called in Tia Mowry’s order, she and Alejandro worked on appetizers despite their complex relationship. Still, she knew Alejandro did not want to send out imperfect food like herself. When Cheyenne struggled with fish, she did not want to see the group fail. The final five were kicked out of the kitchen after multiple mistakes, and they were tasked to nominate two people for elimination.
Sommer was not nominated for elimination. While being dismissed, she refused to let anyone knock her off her game.[13]
Episode 14[]
- Main article: Episode 2114 - Lights, Camera, Sabotage!
Back at the dorms, Sommer was warry about Dafne’s tactics and thought the latter showed her true colors due to being nominated.
During the Presentation Challenge, Sommer was eager to leave her comfort zone and cooked a potato-crusted Thai snapper. With thirty minutes left, she chilled her potatoes in the fridge. She was the second chef to have her dish judged and was confident in her dish. She made a potato-crusted snapper. The sauce was deemed incredible, and Ramsay said it popped. She lost the challenge to Dafne and was punished by making compound butter by churning it. During the punishment, Alejandro wished he still had his Punishment Pass, but she reminded him that he had already used it on her. Alejandro admitted that he did it to get under her skin, and she was still upset by that. As the two churned the butter, she refused to make contact with Alejandro due to the motion and felt her arm getting tired.
Later that evening, the final four prepped for service as Sommer knew there was no room for error. Ramsay pulled Dafne to the pantry room as she tried to focus so she did not let her mind wander. Later, Ramsay pulled her aside for assertiveness training. She paused while smiling but eventually got her assertiveness worked out. During dinner service, she was at the garnish station. She was the second chef to run the pass and called out the appetizer order. However, she did not tell Alejandro what the entrée order on the ticket was. Alex thought she felt frantic on the pass as her voice was frantic, and she failed to realize that she had read a wrong ticket order. Ramsay told her that a meal was missing for a six top and told her to get Marino. She admitted to missing that, and Alex was slow on risotto due to a butter issue. So, she told the waiter to send out an incomplete order and tried to push Alex for the risotto. Eventually, Alex got his risotto up to the pass. As she sent out the risotto, she moved on to entrées. Secretly, Ramsay swapped the halibut with Chilean sea bass, and she caught the mistake despite mistaking it for cod. She tried to laugh it off, but Ramsay sternly told her it was no laughing matter. She felt good as she was catching mistakes and plated the spinach. However, Ramsay told her it was arugula and told her to taste it. After her turn, she knew she should have caught that mistake, as spinach and arugula were different. During Alex's turn, she gave him the right carbonara after the sabotage test. During Dafne's turn, she felt the former's nervous vibe and said some people were not meant to be leaders. Then, she suggested bringing out entrées first before appetizers, which caused a meltdown of communication until Dafne told them to shut up. Dafne got the kitchen refocused, and Alejandro called her actions rude as no one talked over his turn.
After service, Ramsay asked the final four to agree on who did not deserve to be in the finale. During deliberation, Alejandro said he was torn between Dafne and Sommer. Alejandro told her that she tended to be frantic, and Alex said he did not like how she was dismissive of their questions. She said she did not mean to act like that, but she argued she wanted to focus on appetizers. Still, Alex thought she had a dismissive attitude on the line. She thought they could not handle her attitude despite feeling she was assertive and voted for Dafne for being overwhelmed on multiple items.
After the final four came downstairs, Ramsay told them that only three would be moving on to the finale and asked them why they deserved to stay. Sommer said she had a lot of drive and had been on an uphill battle while improving along the way. She was eliminated after being excluded from the final three. Before leaving, Ramsay told Sommer that she had grown a lot since the beginning and said she was the definition of VIP. Ramsay told Sommer his door in New York was open and allowed her to keep her jacket. She received a retrospective montage of her time on the show during her exit interview.
Ramsay's comment: "There's no doubt in my mind that Sommer is going to do great things in this industry. She's definitely VIP in my book."
Although she kept her jacket, Sommer still received the coat-hanging portion of the portrait burning sequence.[14]

Sommer was one of the seven chefs that returned for the final dinner service. While watching the Final Menu Challenge, she was happy to see Dafne in the final challenge as she had come a long way since the start and hoped the latter killed it. She was Dafne's first pick for her team because, despite their differences, the latter knew she would fight for her. She was followed by Sakari, Vlad, and Abe.[15] When Dafne went over the menu, the former put her on appetizers. Although she worried about Abe's cooking abilities for Dafne, she knew the rest of the team would make it work for the latter.
During dinner service, Sommer was at the appetizer station. She said she needed six minutes on appetizers and got lost on the order. Dafne wanted the order out fast, but she knew she had too much to cook, including the tartare. Dafne told Abe to help her with appetizers, but the former knew the two did not get along due to their argument after she was forced to do the men's punishment and showed an attitude towards Abe. Still, with Abe's help, she got her first order of appetizers accepted. When Sakari struggled with meat, she was dismayed but could not go over to help him as she knew he must bounce back. As the chefs cleared down, she was pleased that Dafne rose that night. Dafne eventually lost the finale to Alex.[16]
