Scott Hawley was a contestant on Season 7 of Hell's Kitchen. He ranked in 11th place.

Season 7

Episode 1

When the chefs entered Hell's Kitchen while being welcomed by a group of press reporters and photographers, Scott said that he was ready to whatever Ramsay would throw at him. When he introduced himself at the microphone, he declared that he was there to win the competition, with Ramsay noticing that it was a bold statement.

During the Signature Dish Challenge, Scott was the third person from the blue team to have his dish judged by Ramsay and went up against Jamie. He served his duck breast with parsnip and declared it would be struggling for him to be a cook amongst cooks as he was used to be a chef amongst cooks while adding that he would be embarrassed to be the runner-up. After tasting his dish, Ramsay deemed it pathetic as there was not a single appetizing ingredient. Neither he nor Jamie scored a point.

The blue team won the challenge 4-3, and they were eventually rewarded with a breakfast in bed prepared by the red team the next morning. Back in the dorms, the men felt more pressure while studying the menu for the opening night. The next day, during prep, Scott was already emerging as a leader by giving clear instructions to his teammates, but Jay was not impressed.

During dinner service, Scott was on the garnish station. At one point, he tried to interfere in Mikey's job by telling him to make sure his halibut was cooked right and added that because he was on garnish, he thought Ramsay was seeing some confidence in him. He told Mikey to walk with his halibut, much to the latter's annoyance, and when the halibut was sent back for being raw, he was put the blame on by Mikey, who told he was making him look bad. He motivated Mikey while the latter started his halibut over. After three of his teammates were kicked out, the blue team merged with the red team to serve all the remaining customers. When the last ticket was served and the service was completed, he declared he wanted to puke. The blue team won the service.

Episode 2

Back in the dorms, Scott acknowledged that the opening night was fucking rough, and rallied his teammates by saying they must be supportive to each other.

The next morning, at 5 am, the chefs were awakened by an alarm clock amplified all over the dorms by Sous Chefs Scott and Andi. When Ramsay introduced the Egg Relay Challenge, Scott was confident as he proclaimed himself as a badass in the kitchen, and during the challenge, he was paired with Andrew. He convinced his teammates to not burn their eggs, and moments later, he was more focusing on Salvatore's eggs than his own, annoying Mikey.

During the judging, Scott and Andrew were the third pair to compete for the blue team. When Mikey and Salvatore were being judged, he was accused of being the reason why the latter's scrambled egg was overcooked, and during their turn, they scored three points. The blue team won the challenge 11-10, and they were rewarded with a helicopter tour of Los Angeles, and lunch with Ramsay on top of a building.

During dinner service, Scott served tuna tartar tableside. At one point, because of Mikey's mistake, he was asked by Ramsay, who called him "Carrot top", to serve four more tartars on two tables, which he did while apologizing for the delay. After Andrew's departure, he was reintegrated into the kitchen, assigned to the garnish station, and helped his teammates to complete the service. Both teams were named joint-losers, and they were asked to nominate one person each.

He was not nominated for elimination.

Episode 3

The next morning, the chefs went to the dining room, where Ramsay introduced the Marching Band Lunch Service Challenge while revealing they would be serving the marching band of the University of Southern California. During the challenge, Scott was at the grill station. When he sent his first burgers to the pass, one of them was raw, dismaying Ramsay, who asked him to check everything, and he started his burgers over while motivating his teammates. The blue team lost the challenge, and they were punished by cleaning a section of the Los Angeles River to help the Heal the Bay organization while wearing yellow jumpsuits.

During dinner service, Scott was on the appetizer station. When he was working on his first appetizers, he rejected Ed's help, while stating that he was excited to work on appetizers as it was an opportunity for him to stand out. But, the first potatoes he brought to the pass did not have any color, Ramsay berated him, showed him the potatoes that the red team did, and ordered him to stop serving shit. So, he had to start over, and later, motivated Jason, who was struggling on garnish. Later, he jumped on the garnish station to help Jason, much to the latter's annoyance, was scrambling over him stopping to do his job properly, but reminded that he was just there to help as they were a team. Later, he tried to interfere with Benjamin's job on meat, before being aggressively pushed away by the latter. After the beef was accepted, he congratulated Benjamin by patting him on the shoulder.

When both teams were lined up, Scott was told by Ramsay that because of his uncolored potatoes incident, the red team got to a much faster start than the men. The blue team won the service.

Episode 4

Very late in the night, while everybody else was asleep, Scott was up, and talking with Salvatore about the latter's experience and work ethic. Salvatore knew that he was the least experienced person at the moment, so he agreed to help him be successful to make sure the blue team would win, acknowledging that both of them were having a great work relationship together. Then, he explained to Salvatore that Ramsay wanted to see him strong, and concluded by convincing him to follow what he was doing as he felt it would be beneficial for him.

The next morning, the chefs went downstairs, where Ramsay introduced the Craps Challenge. Before rolling the die, Scott jokingly asked Ramsay if he could blow on it, but Ramsay categorically refused. He was the first person to roll the die for the blue team, landed on H, and chose halibut. During the cooking, he accepted Salvatore's help, saying that his job as a chef was to coach and motivate the ones that had the fewer experience. When Salvatore asked him if he seasoned his fish, he pushed Salvatore away by saying he should let him do his own job. During the judging, he described the blue team's dish.

The blue team won the challenge, and they were rewarded with an indoor skydiving activity. When they came back from their reward, Scott was worried about Maria's apologies, as he thought the men would not be well-prepared for dinner service. After learning they would be hosting chefs tables, he thought it would not be a curveball as working for Ramsay meant that they were just focusing on his expectations.

During dinner service, Scott was on the meat station. When Ramsay called the first ticket, he was motivated to win, and called back the order a couple of times, much to Jason's annoyance. Then, he interfered in the latter's job by giving him clear instructions, thinking that he was the worst cook of the team at the moment while bragging about the fact that he was a leader, a helper, and a motivator. When Salvatore asked Jason for a time, he answered four minutes for him, while telling the latter how to cook the pasta, much to Jay's annoyance. Then, he was dismayed when Jason clearly showed his annoyance about him interfering with his job, as he thought he was not listening. Later, when Salvatore sent perfectly cooked snapper to the pass, he took all the credits for his success by saying that he followed his advice from the previous night as he thought that with the help of his own leadership and technical abilities, Salvatore could be an asset to the blue team.

After that, Scott delivered his first beef to the pass, but they were rare instead of medium. Ramsay ordered the whole team to touch it, all of them acknowledged it was rare, but he insisted that he felt it was medium before Ramsay told him that he was miles off and ordered him to get it back in the oven. Then, he bragged once again about the fact that his temperatures were correct usually, and that Ramsay was probably having higher expectations towards him due to his position as an executive chef. So, he put his beef back in the oven, but almost bumped into Salvatore, and Ramsay asked him what was going on. Moments later, he sent his Wellingtons to the pass, but they were raw, and a dismayed Ramsay ordered the whole team to touch them. He was berated by Ramsay, who asked him what was he doing, and he gave three minutes for his refire. Finally, he delivered perfectly cooked Wellingtons, which were well-received by the customers, while calling it a definite wakeup call for him as he acknowledged he had to pay more attention to his own station.

Both teams were named joint-winners, and for the blue team, Salvatore was named "Best of the Best". In the dorms, Scott was alone with Salvatore, and the latter called his mistakes big and added that he was nervous. However, he did not believe he was the worst cook nor the worst leader and added that because he was working well with Salvatore, he was ready to trust him. He admitted that he was happy Salvatore had a good service, the latter convinced him that he was good, and both of them gave each other a fist pump.

Scott was Salvatore's nominee for elimination and joined Autumn from the red team. During his plea, he was told by Ramsay that he was shit on a shovel, and while he admitted that he cooked like an asshole, he bragged one more time, about the fact that he was the strongest leader by far, so much that it was to his detriment as he was too concerned about his teammates. Ramsay acknowledged that he was talking like a politician, was full of shit, and added that he was not as good as he thought he was. After deliberation, he was told to take his jacket off, but was transferred to the red team, exchanging with Autumn, and survived elimination. While being dismissed, he was energized again to cook with the women as he was with the men, and declared that he would come out to play.

Episode 5

Back in the dorms, Scott was gleefully welcomed by the women, and he declared that he was shocked to have switched teams and that his approach would change as he would not help anybody from that moment, only thinking about himself. He still said that they were a team, he and Nilka gave each other a fist pump, and he convinced his new teammates that they would kill it.

The next morning, the chefs were woken up by Sous Chefs Scott and Andi, who gave them butchering outfits to wear for the Pork Creation Challenge. During the first part, Scott was the fifth person from the red team to grab his pig, and he picked one that had the collar written sweet potatoes on it. During the discussion about who would do what, he had the idea of mixing blood sausages with prunes, but Fran was not convinced that it would work. During the second part, he was paired with Maria, and during the cooking, he quickly tried to take control of his new team by giving instructions to the women, which annoyed Siobhan. Ramsay asked him if he was trying to take over the red team, which he answered that he was just suggesting it. Later, he told Fran that the sausages were supposed to be mushy, and Nilka that she had to click them before baking after they came out of the oven busted.

During the judging, Scott refused to take responsibility for the idea of mixing blood sausages and prunes by not answering Ramsay's question, which annoyed Fran and Nilka. He and Maria were the last pair from the red team to have their dish judged, he did not present the dish, which was a sweet potato soup garnished with ham hock, but they lost the round to Jay and Salvatore.

The red team lost the challenge 1-2, and they were punished by cleaning the pig pen outside and giving the pigs a bath while wearing farming clothes. During the punishment, they struggled to wash the pigs as all of them were excited and constantly moving around.

During the Barbecue themed dinner service, Scott was on the chicken station during the first seating and a waiter during the second. At one point, an argument erupted between Fran and Nilka, and he was dismayed as it was like the women were stopping during service to fight. He tried to convince his teammates to refocus on their job, but at that moment, everybody started arguing, dismaying him once again. Later, he sent his fried chicken to the pass, but they were way overcooked, which Ramsay compared to something that came from outer space. After, he started to work on his refire, but left the oven door open while working with a pan. Ramsay caught him, schooled him about potential injuries he could have caused to his teammates, and was reminded about safety procedures, he felt miserable about his mistake and thanked God that nobody was hurt, and Ramsay called it the most dangerous kitchen in the country because of that. After the service was shut down because the two-hour time limit was over, he was embarrassed and called their performance a fucking joke. During the second seating, he was not seen much but took 10 minutes to send his first ticket, with Ramsay asking him what took so long.

The red team lost the service, and Fran was named "Best of the Worst". During deliberation, Scott was targeted by Maria, who she thought had a performance as poor as herself, but he started to confront her by saying that at least, he gave a hard-ass effort while she did not. He was also considered by Fran for not being as good as he perceived, but he was determined to fight for his life despite knowing that he had a poor performance. So, he went to the bathroom to talk with Fran, and convinced her that if she would nominate anybody else than himself with Maria, they would be safe, but if she would nominate him with her, it could go either way.

Scott was not nominated by Fran, but that decision was questioned by Ramsay, and because of that, he was called down anyway, along with Maria and Nilka. During his plea, Ramsay asked him why he was nominated again on the red team, and he convinced that he was busting ass every night and working hard during prep, but Ramsay reminded that he was not looking for a prep chef and that he was looking for a great chef with great leadership qualities. He convinced that he possessed all those things, added that Ramsay could teach techniques but not leadership, and was ready to correct the techniques he had to correct. He survived elimination, and while being dismissed, he was determined to show that he could cook while being tired of trash-talking.

Episode 6

The next morning, everybody went to the dining room, and when Ramsay asked Scott to name one of the five mother sauces, he correctly answered demi-glace. After, Ramsay introduced the Mother Sauce Challenge, and he chose to work with the béchamel sauce. During the cooking, he was confused on his protein as he could not tell if it was a duck or a chicken but told that whatever he had, he could make it work. Moments later, he reminded Siobhan that she had to check if her chicken was properly cooked. He was the last person from the red team to have his dish judged and went up against Benjamin. He presented his duck breast on a bed of sweet potatoes and eggplant, which was criticized for being bland and undercooked, but he gave the excuse that he could only work with what he was given. He lost the round to Benjamin, and the red team lost the challenge after a tiebreaker at 2.

They were punished by deep-cleaning both kitchens and prepping them for the next service while wearing anti-nuclear combinations. While going back to the dorms, Scott still thought that if Nilka listened to the team and not said "fuck you" to everybody, they would have won. During prep, he asked Siobhan if she was okay after she returned from an allergic reaction, and when he thought that they had enough potatoes, Fran responded that she had more.

During the Family Night dinner service, Scott was on the meat station. On the first ticket, he did not know who was cooking pasta, and was pulled aside to the blue kitchen with Siobhan, and was told by Benjamin that the garnish station was cooking pasta. When the team moved on to entrées, he was not ready with the beef and gave eight minutes to Ramsay when the latter gave four. Ramsay asked him why his second beef was not on yet, which he answered that he was told one beef all day, and when Ramsay asked him who told him that, he put the blame on his teammates. Then, he sent his Wellingtons to the pass and blamed his teammates one more time saying that it was impossible to work with people that were not having a lot of skill in a fine dining restaurant. However, his Wellingtons were raw, Ramsay was exhausted about the number of mistakes, ordered him to touch them, asked if he was color-blind, which he answered no, and told him to put them back in the oven. Then, he was pulled in the pantry room, where Ramsay asked what he was doing, which he answered he was doing nothing, and Ramsay reminded him that his Wellingtons were stone cold in the middle. He promised that it would not happen again, he went back to his station and declared that even though he knew they were undercooked, he thought they were not that bad, and wanted to get them out. On the next ticket, Ramsay asked everybody to tell him he had a beef on just in case, which they did. Later, the beef and the chicken that he sent to the pass were raw, which infuriated Ramsay, who ordered the whole team to touch it, and after all of them talked over everybody, they were kicked out of the kitchen, and the Sous Chefs completed their service for them. Back in the dorms, he blamed the techniques that the women were using compared to the men's, and later, they were called back in the kitchen to clean up.

The red team lost the service by a mile, and they were asked to nominate two people for elimination. During deliberation, Scott considered Siobhan and Nilka, and moments later, he considered Fran, while reminding that she got scattered at some points and that at least, his shit was getting done. Also, he added that he was the only one working in a fine dining restaurant and that nobody else in the team had the experience like he was, annoying Siobhan. Finally, he deemed Fran as the worst cook on the red team, and was considered by Siobhan.

Scott was the red team's first nominee for elimination, with Fran being the second, and when Ramsay asked who was the best chef on the red team, he quickly answered that he was, but Nilka quickly disagreed. After, Fran told that he did not impress anybody at that moment, but he retorted that she was treated like a princess after burning her hand. He was called down with Fran and Siobhan, and during the latter's plea, he interrupted her by saying that she should not be asking simple questions as it should take care of itself, and added that it was not a culinary school and that common sense was driving the red team down. During his plea, he was still wondering why he was nominated and reminded that he was a hard worker despite having a couple of rough services. Also, he added that he was the best leader and best cook on the red team, but as he said that, Ramsay interrupted him, and sent Fran and Siobhan back in line. After Scott stated that the red team would die if he was not there, he was eliminated for his arrogance and failure to live up to his position as an executive chef. During his exit interview, he still thought that he was the best chef on the red team, and blamed his teammates for his elimination as he thought they were not enough qualified to be there as he was.

Ramsay's comment: "If Scott could cook as well as he talks, he'd be the winner of Hell's Kitchen. Unfortunately for him, he can't."

• After his appearance on the show, he returned to his previous career as an executive chef, at the Bluebell Café, in New York City.

• He and Autumn were involved in the first instance where two different chefs switched teams at the same time.
• He is the fourth contestant, and the second male, who switched teams without making it to the black jackets, following Melissa (Season 3), Lacey (Season 5), and Robert (Season 6). He is also the first contestant in this bunch who switched from the blue team to the red team.
• Many of Scott’s confessionals have been noted to play “winner selected” song in the background, a song typically only used for a Season finale. Every time the song played; however, it would humorously be Scott bragging about his leadership skills juxtaposed by a mistake in the kitchen.
