Even though I did not get in the final two, I've definitely grown so much over this competition as a chef and individual, and I could not be at more peace.

Sammi Tarantino was a contestant on Season 22 of Hell's Kitchen. She ranked in 3rd place.

Main article: Episode 2202 - Tad Overwhelming

The eighteen new chefs arrived at Hell's Kitchen, where Marino awaited them. The chefs entered Hell's Kitchen and noticed the past winners from each season before entering the dining room. To give the chefs some inspiration, Ramsay decided to have them walk through the famous doors and have a taste of what it felt like to win. As they went through the doors, Sammi called it a dream to walk through the doors and become Ramsay's champion, planning to make it a reality. Afterwards, the chefs got to know each other before the Sous Chefs arrived, explaining how their time in the competition helped their careers. Later, a guitar player appeared and played the national anthem as four other doors appeared behind the curtain, each figure explaining their journey for the American Dream. After Ramsay stepped out, he welcomed the chefs to the twenty-second season, where they were celebrating the American Dream. Ramsay said the three celebrities the chefs saw were proof of the American Dream and that Hell's Kitchen was part of the American Dream. Ramsay said the winner of that season would become his Head Chef at Hell's Kitchen in Caesars Las Vegas with a salary of $250,000. Then, Ramsay told the chefs that their Signature Dish Challenge was about to begin.

During the Signature Dish Challenge, Sammi said her dish was linguini and clams, which everyone who had it loved, and made fresh pasta. She was the fourth person from the red team to have her dish judged by Ramsay, and she went up against Devon. When she got up, she explained that she worked at the Nomad hotel in Los Angeles, revealing that she met Ramsay during MasterChef Junior and how he praised her steaks back then. Although Ramsay did not remember that moment, he still believed her. She presented her linguini and clams, immediately telling Ramsay that she made fresh pasta. Ramsay said he would remember her perfect five dish, and she felt like a rock star. When the score was tied at 29 each, Ramsay called her and Ryan's dish for another look. Ultimately, her dish edged out, and the red team won the challenge. They were rewarded with a day at a Beverly Hills Mansion. During the reward, she thought the women were bonding well. As the chefs studied at the dorms, Sammi hoped they did well that night.[1]

Before the Creative Scallops Challenge, Sammi called the geoduck Ramsay pulled out of the box interesting and Sandra said it put the men to shame. During the cooking, she asked if anyone was serving raw scallops, only to be met with silence. As she wanted to represent California, she made a scallop crudo. When the women looked over the dishes, she pushed her scallop crudo, and Leigh deemed it beautiful. She made it to the top three of the red team, and she was the first person to have her dish judged by Ramsay. She made a scallop crudo. It looked confident and tasted light, and Ramsay said she was in contention for the Punishment Pass. She lost the challenge after Leigh's dish dethroned her's.

During dinner service, Sammi was at the appetizer station with Donya. At one point, she was seen getting her appetizers accepted for Martina McBride. Both teams were named joint losers, and they were asked to nominate two each.

She was not nominated for elimination.[2]

Both teams were named joint losers, and they were asked to nominate two each. During deliberation, she asked her teammates what the first mistake of the evening was and Carmen told her about Donya’s problems on the halibut.

She was not nominated for elimination.[3]

During the American Classics Challenge, Sammi went up against Johnathan, and their dish was fried chicken. She was the sixth person from the red team to have her dish judged by Ramsay. She presented her chili aioli fried chicken, which had a beautiful cook, and Ramsay gave her and Johnathan a point. The red team lost the challenge 6-7, and they were punished by baking bread for the following service, which included grinding the wheat by hand. During the punishment, she felt her arms give out on her and got deflated when Leigh told her they needed more than what she grinded.

During dinner service, Sammi was at the fish station with Atoye. At one point, she walked up her halibut, only for Ramsay to notice it was burnt. Ramsay was not happy as it was for Jennie Garth. The red team won the service.[4]

Episode 5[]

Main article: Episode 2205 - Just Bring the DARN Fish!

During the Protein Identification Challenge, Sammi was paired up with Raneisha, and they were the final pair from the red team to compete. Their dish was monkfish and rabbit. Melissa prayed that the two had it together, but their first attempt, scallops and chicken, was wrong. They also got turkey and swordfish wrong, along with seabass and squab. However, they got their fourth attempt accepted. The red team lost the challenge 13:14-6:39, and they were punished by taking in deliveries of Alaskan salmon and prepping them for the following service. During the punishment, she was slowly fileting the fish, and she got upset that she was lagging behind her teammates. Raneisha tried reassuring her as it was a new experience for some of them.

During dinner service, Sammi was at the garnish station with Melissa. She took the lead on timings and tickets in the red kitchen, hoping the men and Ramsay heard her. Sandra liked how she took control of the orders and then corrected an incorrect call-out Melissa made. The red team lost the service, and they were asked to nominate two people for elimination. During deliberation, she pinned the loss on the fish station and reminded them they had to refire scallops three times.

She was not nominated for elimination.[5]

Episode 6[]

Main article: Episode 2206 - Fusion Confusion

During the Fusion Cuisine Challenge, Sammi went up against Jason and hit Greek, while the latter hit Indian. Near the end of the cooking time limit, she said she cooked a lot of Greek food in her life, but not with Indian food. Sammi’s meatballs did not come out well, and she had not made the sauce yet, much to Sous Chef Christina’s dismay. As time ran out, she panicked and frantically made her sauce. Fortunately, she made her sauce, and her dish was plated as time ran out. She was the third person from the red team to have her dish judged, but she was nervous as time got the best of her and prayed the flavors were there. She made a Greek-inspired kebob with Tzatziki Sriracha sauce. It was praised for the sauce, but Tony Messina said the meat was slightly overcooked. She scored over Jason and hoped the women would keep it up as she needed sunlight. The red team lost the challenge 3-4 and they were punished by prepping ingredients for the carbonara for service, including shucking peas, dicing pancetta, and shredding parmesan by hand.

During dinner service, Sammi was at the appetizer station with Leigh. She was ready to rock out on appetizers and gave Ramsay a time on her risotto. Then, she got Raneisha and Atoye back on track and was ready to walk her risottos up to the pass. After Brad's exit, Ramsay asked both teams to nominate two each.

She was not nominated for elimination.[6]

Episode 7[]

Main article: Episode 2207 - All Up in Your Grills

During the Grilling Challenge, Sammi went up against Johnathan, and their protein was the trout. She was the fourth person from the red team to have her dish judged, and she presented her Dijon marinated trout with charred corn and asparagus relish. It was deemed good and had great acidity. Both she and Johnathan scored that round, but she did not mind it, as it was better than getting nothing. The red team won the challenge 5-2, and they were rewarded with the rights to keep the Vision brand grills used in the challenge, a day at Dave and Busters, and lunch cooked by Yamashiro. During the reward, she liked the women's positive energy as Carmen led them in a prayer for a successful service.

During the Steak Night dinner service, Sammi was at the meat station with Sandra. When G-Eazy came to the chef's table, she got flustered and made small talk with him before service began properly. On entrées, she was seen walking steaks to the pass. When Sandra failed to recite the tickets properly, she knew that the former had forgotten the tickets easily and that if it continued, the women would lose someone that night. Later, she thought their teamwork was great as they had each other's backs, and they would ride the wave through service. After the red team completed the service, she and Sandra hugged in celebration. The red team won the service.[7]

Episode 8[]

Main article: Episode 2208 - Cooking For Your Life

During the Last Chef Standing Challenge, Sammi cooked the Thai shrimp Pad Thai but got confused over which rice Carmen and Atoye's were. When Atoye got a bad review on her dish, she felt bad for the former for having the wrong rice in her dish, but she also thought Atoye was not showing authority. She was the fourth chef from the red team to have her dish judged by Ramsay and went up against Jason. Her dish had a better peanut sauce than Jason's, but she tied that round with the latter. The red team lost the challenge 3-5 and they were punished by participating in trash sorting day, which included building compost boxes.

Later that day, Ramsay held private interviews with the chefs. Sammi was the final chef to have her interview, with Ramsay telling her that he wanted her to discipline her team and lead them to victory. She did not participate in the Cook For Your Life Challenge as she was not deemed one of the weakest chefs on the red team.[8]

Episode 9[]

Main article: Episode 2209 - More Bang For Your Buck

Back at the dorms, Sammi liked Sandra's Gladys persona as she thought the latter's attitude was positive.

Before the Budget Challenge, Sammi said goodbye to Atoye as the latter was reassigned to the blue team. During the shopping, she wanted filet mignon as she wanted to serve an expensive protein. She was the third person from the red team to have her dish judged and presented her filet mignon dish. It tasted as good as it looked, and she scored $52. The red team lost the challenge $207-$208, and they were punished by making puff pastry for the beef Wellingtons and churning butter by hand.

During dinner service, Sammi was at the appetizer station with Donya. When working on Daniel Mac's twelve-top order, she and Ryan agreed on five minutes, with Ramsay reminding them that it was not a race to finish first on the order. On entrées, she checked on Sandra's Wellingtons and saw a few that were blue. While she feared that the Wellingtons were still rare, Sandra flashed them in the oven and was confident they would be ready. Sandra's gambit worked as the Wellingtons were accepted. The red team lost the service, and they were asked to nominate two people for elimination. During deliberation, she did not feel well sending a teammate home.

She was not nominated for elimination.[9]

Episode 10[]

Main article: Episode 2210 - The Pastabilities Are Endless

During part one of the Creative Pasta Challenge, Sammi got impatient with Carmen’s slow speed and said she used to do competitive dancing. Despite feeling comfortable crossing the beam, she slipped when coming back to her team. The red team lost part one, and they were forced to cook five minutes after the blue team. During the cooking, Sous Chef Christina caught her folding her pasta into tortellini shapes rather than agnolotti shapes. Realizing her mistake, she began to fret as she wasted pasta dough for her dish. Still, she pressed on despite not being confident about her chances. She was the final person from the red team to have her dish judged, and she went up against Jason. She made a chicken and blanched asparagus agnolotti. Evan Funke liked the seasoning and flavors, but he found the shape interesting, as Ramsay knew it was not a traditional-looking agnolotti. Still, she scored over Jason, and the red team won the challenge 3-1. They were rewarded with a goat yoga session, and an Oxo cooking set. When the red team got their sets, she was happy to finally leave Hell’s Kitchen for a day.

During dinner service, Sammi was at the garnish station. At one point, she was impressed with Leigh's leadership on appetizers. Both teams were named joint losers, and Leigh was named the "Best of the Worst" for the red team. During deliberation, she told Leigh that Carmen and Donya deserved to be nominated.

She was not nominated for elimination.[10]

Episode 11[]

Main article: Episode 2211 - A Hellish Food Fight

While going back to the dorms, Sammi thought that night showed how weak Donya and Carmen were for the red team, especially from the previous challenges. Leigh thought Ramsay would have sent two people home that night, and she felt he should have.

During the Blind Taste Test, Sammi got the milk and sprinkle punishments during Carmen's turn. She was the final person from the red team to compete, and she went up against Johnathan. She failed to get a single ingredient correctly, and Leigh received all three punishments. The red team lost the challenge 5-7, and they were punished by cleaning up the dining room ahead of Charity Night.

During the Charity Night dinner service, Sammi was in charge of the Chilean sea bass course. She got the women organized, much to Ramsay's pleasure and got her course out with no problems. During the filet mignon course, she was seen basting the meat. Both teams were named joint losers, and they were asked to nominate one each. During deliberation, she said that Carmen tried to be more in the movement than delegating. Although Carmen felt she had the loudest voice in the red kitchen, she disagreed.

She was not nominated for elimination.[11]

Episode 12[]

Main article: Episode 2212 - A Hell's Kitchen Special Delivery

During the first Black Jackets Challenge, Sammi was unhappy when Carmen picked turnips as she never cooked with them. She rolled a T and picked truffles. During the cooking, she struggled to figure out what to do with the turnips, but she had other ideas with her dish as she refused to go without a fight. After seeing Dahmere's mediocre performance, she thought it did not look good for him. She was the sixth person to have her dish judged by Ramsay, and she presented her miso beurre glazed halibut with broccoli puree and cauliflower gurbani. It was praised for nailing the fish, and Ramsay liked the cauliflower component. However, she was uneasy about Ramsay’s short review. She won the second black jacket, making her feel proud that she went with her gut. She joined Johnathan at the patio, the former believing they deserved it.

She and Johnathan watched the second challenge on the live stream, but she saw Leigh slicing her ribeye and accused the latter of hacking it. Later, they welcomed Dahmere and Carmen when they entered the dorms. After the livestream for the final challenge ended, she had a feeling Jason would not come upstairs.[12]

Episode 13[]

Main article: Episode 2213 - HellishHangover

Continuing from the previous episode, Ramsay and the Sous Chefs left the dorms so the final six could celebrate making it to black jackets. The final six continued to celebrate by taking pictures and drinking all night. The most drunk were Johnathan and Sammi, as both had been drinking all day.

During the Presentation Challenge, Sammi felt unwell after drinking all night. As she made pasta for her dish, she felt the dough go hard on her and hoped it would work. She was the second person to have her dish judged, and she presented her beetroot pasta with crab and truffle. Kevin Meehan compared the pasta to Cheetos and said it did not look like cavatelli. Also, Meehan did not like the taste of the pasta, frightening Leigh as she did not expect that from her. She admitted she could have done better and ended up receiving thirteen points from Ramsay’s seven and Meehan’s six. Afterwards, she regretted drinking as she did not feel like herself. Her dish was ranked online, and she received an additional five points, ending up with eighteen points. She lost the challenge to Leigh and was punished by prepping 100 pounds of almonds for the lamb entrée at the following service. As the punished chefs breaked for lunch, she noticed that Johnathan was still bothered by Ramsay's comment earlier.

During dinner service, Sammi was at the appetizer station with Ryan. She and Ryan pushed out appetizers, but when problems arose on entrées, she did not think it would get easier. After service, Ramsay asked the final six to name two people for elimination.

She was not nominated for elimination.[13]

Episode 14[]

Main article: Episode 2214 - Don't Be Fooled

Before the King of the Hill Challenge, Sammi knew that winning the pop-up reward would be phenomenal. During the circuit, she complained about how slippery the track was as she grabbed swordfish. Afterwards, it was revealed that she was shopping for Ryan while she received Johnathan's ingredients. That dismayed her as all the ideas she had were gone. During the cooking, she was upset with Johnathan’s French ingredients but was pleased that she had mahi-mahi as it was a Floridan fish. She was the first person to have her dish judged by Ramsay and said how proud she was of her dish. She made a grilled mahi-mahi with a charred pickled corn salad with a tangerine beurre Blanc. Ramsay liked the zestiness of the dish as it reminded him of Florida, and she sat on the chair. Afterwards, she said that she wanted the pop-up reward very much. While she survived over Ryan, she lost the challenge after being dethroned by Carmen.

Sammi was punished by prepping coconuts and making yogurt for the beet salads. During the punishment, Sammi proclaimed that she was smashing the coconuts like she would that night on service. Later, she complained that the men were getting cocky and pointed out how she and Carmen were the last two women left in the competition.

During dinner service, Sammi was at the fish station. During Ryan's turn, she appreciated how the former called out his ticket with clear dictation and intent. During Johnathan's turn, she served a salmon that Ramsay swapped for an Artic char. She was the final person to run the pass and refused to go home that night as she was all business at the pass. She spoke out in a clear and punchy manner and rejected Ryan’s lobster tails for being overcooked. Then, Ryan brought up an undercooked lobster tail and tried to argue with her that they were cooked, but Ramsay told him to shut it. As she told Ryan to push it, the latter got his third attempt accepted. For the following order, Sous Chef Christina gave her arugula instead of spinach, but she caught that mistake. Although she felt proud she had caught that mistake, she failed to see that Ramsay had given her a Chilean sea bass instead of halibut. Ramsay pointed that out, making her feel defeated for missing that. Still, she thought she did well.

After service, Ramsay told the final four to have a deep discussion on why they deserved to continue in the competition. During deliberation, Sammi revealed that she was competing for her dad as well, as the latter suffered from a stroke two years ago, and she has taken care of him since.

After the final four came downstairs, Ramsay asked the final four to explain why they deserved to stay. Sammi said she had improved as a leader and wanted to become Ramsay’s next head chef. She was the last person to make it to the final three because she had been unflappable in the competition, making her feel emotional. She joined Ryan and Johnathan. While being dismissed, she could not believe she was in the final three and knew her dad would be proud of her.[14]

Episode 15/16[]

Back at the dorms, Sammi admitted how nervous she was over not being in the final three, but she was happy and proud of herself for making it. Sometime later, Ramsay called the dorms and told Johnathan to bring everyone downstairs. She had no idea what could happen, but Ramsay told the three that they must create a menu for their final challenge. To help conceptualize their menus, Ramsay was giving them the Sous Chefs to help them. Then, Ramsay asked one chef to press a button to reveal where they were meeting their Sous Chefs, and she got Ramsay’s office. She got to the office and met with Sous Chef Christina, both of whom were happy they had partnered up. She said she wanted to make a Californian French-Asian-inspired menu and felt doing fusion dishes was impactful for her. Then, she told Sous Chef Christina about her father’s health after his stroke and said she wanted to do it for him. She knew her father would be proud to see her in the final three, but she knew it would be better for him to see her win.

The following day, Ramsay sent the final three to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for inspiration. When the three entered the Coliseum, Ramsay spoke with them through the jumbotron. Ramsay told them how the Coliseum hosted several Olympics throughout the years and how countless athletes made their American Dreams come true on the fields before them. Carl Lewis came out to meet the final three and explained how he dreamed about joining the Olympics and went through a lot to get there. That made her more determined to get to her further in her career, and Lewis surprised them with a helicopter tour over Los Angeles. As the final three went on the helicopter, she felt how crazy the journey had been for her. On top of the US Bank building, Ryan was excited about what would happen next. Their first stop was new clothes at the US Boutique, and their second stop was at the 71 Above with Ramsay, exciting her as she finally got another meal with the former. She explained that she was never academically brilliant and rebellious as a teenager, which ironically led her to her first restaurant job. When Ramsay asked her about her experience in the competition, she admitted she had never been pushed that much, which she called amazing. The final three and Ramsay toasted to their milestone.

When the group got back to Hell’s Kitchen, they saw the front hallway under construction as Ramsay wanted to get things ready for the final service. Ramsay took the final three to another pathway, leading them to a room of the props used in the season. There, Ramsay saw the ball pit from the Creative Pasta Challenge and recalled how she fell off the balance beam. Ramsay said he was proud of all three of them as they deserved to be in the final three despite their ups and downs before revealing that he had another present for them. Taking them to his office, Ramsay gave the final three two tickets from Allegiant Airlines, which excited her as she got a chance to see the world. Afterwards, Ramsay took down the paper covering the construction of the dining room, only to reveal a group of guests awaiting them, including seven of the previously eliminated chefs. Johnathan admitted he should have seen that coming as Ramsay announced the Final Menu Challenge. After announcing the final three, Ramsay told them that they had one hour to cook a five-course meal from their menu, with the top two chefs earning their spots in the final dinner service. Ramsay urged the trio to make their meals the most important ones of their career, and he began the challenge.

During the challenge, Sammi was ready to win, and while she was grateful for the support in the dining room, she tried to focus on her dishes as she was concerned about her chicken dish. When Giada De Laurentiis came to guest judge the cold appetizer round, she said she looked up to Laurentiis and said it was the latter that made her want to be a chef. She made a Hamachi crudo with a watermelon blood orange jalapeno relish and micro cilantro. Laurentiis said the choice of fruit opened her palate, making Donya hopeful that she won. She scored nine points. On the hot appetizer round, she presented her pork cabbage dumplings with a scallion olive chili oil. They were well seasoned, and the crunch on the bottom, with Brian Malarkey saying it was a good start to the round. She scored a perfect ten. When Nyesha Arrington came to guest judge the fish entrée round, she recognized the former for being a badass chef. She made an orange miso sweet potato puree with a crispy Chilean sea bass. The fish had great flavor, but the long pause Arrington gave after tasting the dish worried her. Arrington suggested adding fresh herbs to the dish, but otherwise, she told her that it was a good dish. She scored eight points. For the chicken entrée round, she made a pan-seared chicken thigh with purple sweet potatoes and Pad Thai salad. The dish had some nice Asian flavors, but Michael Cimarusti suggested adding more acidity to the sauce. She scored nine points. For the beef entrée round, she served her seared New York striploin with a wasabi pomme puree, pickled mushrooms, and lime aioli. Curtis Stone loved the presentation and told her that she had cooked the steak correctly. Also, Stone praised the flavors of the mushrooms and the umami, calling it a well-balanced dish. She scored nine points but knew it was either her or Johnathan’s game to win. She lost the challenge to Ryan and Johnathan 45-46-48, and she was eliminated. Still, Ramsay told her that she had been a strong chef since the start, and he knew she would get there eventually. As she went off the stage, she called that day the best and was at peace for growing so much in the competition. Ramsay did not comment on her elimination. She did not receive a retrospective montage or the portrait burning sequence.

Sammi was Ryan's first pick for his brigade and the first pick overall. Jason, Carmen, and Sandra joined her. After being picked, she commented that Ramsay could not get rid of her that easily.[15]

During dinner service, Sammi was at the appetizer station. On their first order, Ryan pushed her for the beet salad, and she knew the former was channeling his inner Ramsay. Also, she liked Ryan’s leadership and hoped he would win, getting her beet salads accepted. Ryan eventually won the finale over Johnathan.[16]
