The Ranking Challenge is a recurring challenge in Hell's Kitchen.

Overview[]

For that challenge, Ramsay has both teams make a dish that he wants under a certain theme or using a key ingredient. At the end of the cooking time, Ramsay asks both teams to rank their dishes from first to last, and the chefs from those rankings go head to head. Ramsay will then award the person from that rank a point, or both, and the team with the most points wins the challenge.

This challenge tests the team’s ability to properly decide which dishes are the strongest or the weakest amongst their line-up.

History[]

Season 8[]

Episode 4 was when the challenge first took place. It happened when there were 12 chefs left, 6 on both teams. Known as the Ravioli Challenge, Ramsay gave both teams 30 minutes to create their own ravioli dish, and afterwards, both teams must rank them from first to last. The blue team’s ranking was Vinny, Rob, Russell, Louis, Boris, and Trev, while the red team’s ranking was Melissa, Jillian, Nona, Emily, Sabrina, and Gail. Melissa scored over Vinny, while both Rob and Jillian tied on their round, and Russel scored over Nona. Then, Emily scored over Louis, while Boris scored over Sabrina. Lastly, Trev scored over Gail, giving the blue team the win 4-3. They were rewarded with a helicopter trip to the Palace Verde’s Oceanside Resort, and Vinny’s Swiss chard bacon and mushroom ravioli dish, despite not scoring a point, was featured in the following service. The red team had to prep both kitchens for the following night’s service, and make pasta and mozzarella cheese from scratch.[1]

Season 9[]

Episode 7 had it when there were 11 chefs left, 6 on the red team, and 5 on the red team. Known as the Creative Beer Challenge, Ramsay gave both teams 45 minutes to cook their own dishes using beer as the main ingredient. Because the red team had an extra chef, Krupa’s dish was taken out of the ranking. From first to last, the blue team’s ranking was Tommy, Will, Natalie, Jonathon, and Paul, while the red team’s ranking was Jamie, Elizabeth, Jennifer, Elise, and Carrie. Carrie scored over Paul, while Elise scored over Jonathon. However, Natalie scored over Jennifer, while Will scored over Elizabeth. Lastly, Tommy scored over Jamie, and the blue team won the challenge 3-2. They had a VIP day at the Long Beach Grand Prix Indy Car Racing, while the red team participated in delivery day.[2]

Trivia[]
