Hell's Kitchen Wiki

The Pizza Challenge is a recurring challenge in Hell’s Kitchen.

Overview[]

Done in the team phase, both teams are required to make gourmet pizzas that Ramsay will judge. The team with the most points at the end wins.

This challenge tests the chef’s abilities to create stunning gourmet pizzas in a fine dining setting.

History[]

Season 4[]

Episode 5 was the first time the challenge took place. There were 11 chefs, six on the red team, five on the blue team. Both teams had 45 minutes to make their own pizzas. For the judging, Ramsay asked both teams to pick one pizza as a representative. The red team picked Jen’s pizza while the blue team picked Ben’s. Jen’s pizza was deemed the best, and the red team won the challenge. They had a helicopter ride to Square One, while the blue team had to prep pizzas for the following service.[1]

Season 12[]

Episode 7 had it when there were 14 chefs, seven on both teams. Both teams had 30 minutes to cook their pizzas. Both teams had three pairs each, but Rochelle and Ralph cooked alone due to the odd numbers. Before the judging took place, Ramsay asked both teams to omit one pizza for judging. The blue team omitted Jason and Chris’ pizza, while the red team omitted Bev and Kashia’s pizza. Wolfgang Puck was invited as a guest judge. Each pizza was scored on a 1-5 scale, with ten as the maximum. The blue team won the challenge 15-12, and they were rewarded with a day at the Andaz Hotel with yoga lessons. The red team had to prep for Italian Family Night, including prepping ravioli by hand, grate the cheese, and prep both kitchens.[2]

Season 24[]

Episode 12 featured the Pizza Challenge as the second Black Jackets Challenge. Five of the seven remaining chefs competed as Ellie and Jada had won their black jackets in the previous challenge. The five chefs had 30 minutes to create their own gourmet pizza. After tasting the five dishes, Ramsay deemed Cydni's béchamel pizza with shrimp, braised fennel, and avocado, and Lisa's chorizo and avocado pizza were deemed the best and they won the challenge. Both received their black jackets and stayed in the Black Jacket Lounge for the rest of the day. The three remaining chefs competed in the final black jackets challenge.

Trivia[]

  • Season 4's version of this challenge is unique because this was one of the few times Ramsay only asked for one representative for judging.
