The Holiday Dish Challenge is one of the most recurring challenges of Hell's Kitchen.
Overview[]
Ramsay will give out a holiday theme for the chefs to cook for this challenge, and each would make it. The dishes were judged on how well they represented the respected holiday, and if the chef succeeded, Ramsay would award them a point. The team with the most points at the end wins. If done during the individual phase, the person with the best dish overall will win.
This challenge tests how well the chefs can create holiday-inspired dishes for certain holidays.
History[]
Season 15[]
Episode 5 was the first time the challenge took place. It happened when there were fourteen chefs left, seven on both teams. Known as the Holiday Platter Challenge, Ramsay gave both teams 45 minutes to cook three platters that represented three different holidays: the Fourth of July, Cinco de Mayo, and Mardi Gras. Each platter must contain three dishes for judging, and each platter would score a point for their respective successful dish. Linda Fears of Family Circle came in as a guest judge. Frank and Joe scored two points over Kristin and Jackie's one on the Fourth of July patter. Then, the trio of Hassan, Manda, and Dannie tied with Alan, Jared, and Eddie on the Cinco de Mayo platter with two each. Lastly, Ariel and Ashley scored two points over Chad and Kevin's zero on the Mardi Gras platter, and the red team won the challenge 5-4. They went to the Santa Barbara Sunstone Valley for wine blending lessons and lunch. Also, Ariel and Ashley's platter was featured in Family Circle. The blue team prepared for Family Night by making candy, cake pops, and cookies.[1]
Season 17[]
In Episode 14, the challenge happened during the individual phase for the first time. It happened when there were four chefs left. Known as the Holiday Dish Challenge, Ramsay gave the four chefs 45 minutes to create a holiday-inspired dish using ingredients they picked from presents under the tree. The judging was done by the final four's loved ones blindly, and each was asked to name their top two dishes. Benjamin's chestnut-crusted salmon and Michelle's seared venison loin tied at three each, but Ramsay gave the former the win for having the best technical aspects. Benjamin won some time with Ramsay and had lunch with his family at Saddle Peak Lodge. The remaining chefs cleaned up the Christmas decorations and detailed the SUVs.[2]
