The second episode of Season 10 of Hell's Kitchen aired on FOX on June 5, 2012. In that episode, scallops were the main ingredient, one chef became the main target of their teammates, and a supposed redemption service became a train wreck.

Intro[]

While going back to the dorms, Royce claimed to be the happiest man in the world as he was still there and flaunted it in the dorms. Guy was still upset Royce tried to throw him under the bus, once again argued that he never sabotaged him, and told him to be a man about his mistakes. Brian wanted it to be about the team as he felt they could not blend and hoped for a breakthrough. Meanwhile, Christina expresses concern to Kimmie that the red team was not coming together as a team.

Team challenge[]

The next day, at 6:18 AM, the Sous Chefs bring up a rap group to wake the chefs up. As the chefs woke up, a confused Kimmie asked if the house was burning down. An annoyed Dana flipped off the rappers, and Barbie complained that it was too early to party. After all the chefs were up, Sous Chef Scott ordered them outside the front entrance. Once there, Ramsay called the previous night one of the worst performances on scallops before calling Roshni’s performance embarrassing. Then, Ramsay revealed that he got a hold of their scallop supplier for the early morning delivery. When the truck pulled out, two piles of ice and buckets of the team's colors were revealed. Clemenza said it was the last thing he wanted to see as it meant fun and games were over. Ramsay revealed 125 scallops in each ice pile and ordered both teams to get every scallop into their bucket.

As the chefs began digging for their scallops, Robyn commented that she did not care how cold her hands and feet were, she was trying to find scallops like a dog. Then, Royce’s face was bleeding, and he claimed that Guy hit him in the face with a scallop. While Royce went to see medical attention, Guy felt the former deserved it for trying to throw him under the bus the previous night. Meanwhile, Barbie was seen not helping her teammates cut through the ice. That led Tiffany to comment that an extra set of hands would have been nice and called her a bitch before telling Barbie to dig. Eventually, time was up, but Ramsay noticed Briana missing a shoe. Despite that, Ramsay told both teams to take their scallops back to their kitchens and get changed for their next challenge, while Robyn was ready for hell as she expected it when she arrived. Back at the dorms, Justin refused to lose again, and Clemenza warned the women to watch out as the men were ready to go.

Once changed into their chef jackets, Ramsay announced the Scallop Challenge. Each team must shuck, clean, and cook properly ordered scallops before giving them a demonstration on how to do all three. However, Guy admitted never to have cleaned a scallop before in his life. While Kimmie called the process disgusting, she knew that she had to get down and dirty to win. After the demonstration was over, Ramsay revealed that he wanted both teams to make six scallop dishes with five pieces on each plate like the sample plate he showed. The team who finished first would win. As the challenge began, both teams broke off into pairs. As Barbie knew Ramsay expected perfection for that challenge, she was ready to give perfection as she put greens on her and Tiffany’s plate. While the women worked slow and carefully, the men worked fast as Don and Clemenza sent up their first attempt. However, Ramsay rejected it for not matching his standards, leading Clemenza to realize how tough that challenge was. Barbie and Tiffany sent up their first attempt, just as Chris and Patrick got their first attempt up. Still, Ramsay went with the women first as they arrived first. While Ramsay accepted Barbie and Tiffany’s first attempt, leading the former to feel that she and the latter were hitting their stride. Ramsay rejected Chris and Patrick’s attempt to have a smaller scallop and a larger scallop on the same plate, making it 1-0 for the women. Later, Dana and Robyn got their first attempt accepted, and the women led 2-0. While Dana ecstatically yelled, boom goes the dynamite, Ramsay ordered the men to speed up. As the men had nothing on the pass, Justin decided to send up his and Brian’s attempt for the hell of it. Still, it was rejected for having poorly cut scallops as Ramsay felt they looked more like rectangles than circles. As the men struggled to get a single point, the pairs of Barbie and Tiffany, and Dana and Robyn, each got their second attempts accepted, and the pair of Christina and Danielle got their first attempt accepted. The score was 5-0 for the women as Tiffany derided the men for sucking. As Guy wanted to push it for the men, he and Royce brought up their first attempt, Ramsay accepted it. Then, Chris and Patrick got their second attempt accepted, making the score 5-2 for the women. As Kimmie started to feel the pressure, Ramsay rejected Roshni’s attempt for having inconsistent sizing. After, Barbie and Tiffany brought up their third attempt, while Chris and Patrick brought up their third attempt not long after. However, Ramsay looked at the women’s plate first. After Barbie prayed for the scallops to be perfect, Ramsay accepted them, and the women won 6-2. As Barbie was happy to have won it for her team with three perfect attempts, a defeated Brian called the men’s loss a blowout.

Reward[]

The women were rewarded with a trip to Catalina Island with Ramsay on board a yacht. A surprised Danielle called their reward more than she expected. As the women walked past the men during their punishment, Tiffany mockingly knew that they would have a great day while the men were going to have a shit day as it was not even a hard challenge to win. During the reward, Christina deemed Ramsay a cool cat outside the kitchen. Still, Robyn admitted how homesick she was to be away from her fiancé. An annoyed Barbie told Robyn that it was not the time to talk about her girlfriend.

Later that day, the women went zip lining, which Dana called the best as she took in the view, but when Roshni had her turn, she stopped in the middle of the course, much to Dana and Barbie’s humor. Eventually, Roshni got some help to make it the rest of the way, and Briana called that day beautiful to hang out and bond.

Punishment[]

The men were punished with cleaning up the ice from the front entrance and prepping prawns for the following night’s service as Ramsay deemed their performance embarrassing. As the men started to clean up their kitchen, Patrick commented that losing sucked and refused to continue losing with a bunch of half-assed jabronis who were not pulling their own weight. Brian and Chris tossed a chunk of ice at the women during the punishment after they left for their reward. Later that day, Sous Chef Scott said that because the men liked wasting food, he put all the improperly cooked scallops into a blender and made scallop shakes out of them, disgusting Don. As the men drank their scallop shakes, Brian had a shakestache on his face and jokingly asked got scallops. However, an annoyed Royce told Brian to start acting like a man and not like a boy, annoying the latter as he did not want to be business all the time.

Before service[]

Later that night, the women came back from their reward as the men were prepping the prawns, and a pissed Guy said he would not mind getting sunburned. The next day, both teams began preparing for that night’s service. While the men decided to put their differences aside and work together, Robyn asked Barbie for some tape, leading to a small argument as the latter tried to lend it to the former half-assed. Then, Robyn said that Barbie was not acting as a team player and that the latter was there for herself and added that Barbie should be lucky they were not in the hood. While Christina noticed the tension between Barbie and Robyn, she hoped the women could still act as a team before expecting a brawl in the dorms.

After prep, Ramsay had both teams lined up. After calling the opening night a huge disappointment, he hoped that night to be about redemption and pride. After, Ramsay asked James to open Hell’s Kitchen.

Dinner service[]

A tableside appetizer of shrimp scampi was service by Brian and Christina that night. However, Brian did not know what table he was serving to, much to Ramsay’s dismay. As Don worked on his pizzas at a slow pace, Royce tried to interject, and Ramsay told the former not to finger the dough. After calling Ramsay intimidating, Don sped up a little but served a burnt pizza on the top and raw on the bottom. Ramsay asked how Don managed that before showing the men the dish. Patrick called Don a dumbass for failing to make a seven-inch pizza, and Ramsay refused to go down on a pizza. Kimmie got her pizza accepted in the red kitchen, but Ramsay was waiting on Briana on the risotto. Despite claiming that making risottos was her favorite and hoped for perfection, Briana sent up three pans of risottos for the same table, all different colors. That led Ramsay to ask Briana why she would not cook them in one pan together. Briana admitted that she should have as an annoyed Danielle asked her to do something. In the blue kitchen, Guy refused to allow anything he sent to the pass to be rejected and got his dish accepted as Don got his refire accepted. Afterwards, the men served up a stream of appetizers from both the kitchen and Brian’s tableside station. Still, James found from a blue diner that her shrimp scampi had raw shrimp before bringing the dish to the pass. After seeing that, Ramsay called for Brian from the upstairs, showed him both raw and overcooked shrimp on the same table, and was forced to make a refire.

Forty-five minutes into dinner service, the women have yet to serve a single appetizer. When Ramsay asked Barbie for the scallops, she did not respond until the second time. However, Tiffany expressed concern about missing scallop pieces, but Barbie ignored her and placed eight pieces on the tray. So, Tiffany decided to send up the incomplete order to throw Barbie under the bus. When Ramsay and Sous Chef Andi saw the incomplete order, he asked Barbie what was wrong with her, told the women what happened, and criticized their poor level of concentration. After Tiffany accused Barbie of not knowing how to count, the latter got her two pieces accepted. The women served their first table. Chris tried to do the math in the blue kitchen as four orders of scallop dishes meant 20 scallops needed to be cooked, and he struggled to decide what pan to cook them on. When Chris sent the scallops up, Ramsay saw two trays of differently cooked scallops, all overcooked. He angrily asked if they learned anything from yesterday before sending the men to the chef tables and eat them. That annoyed Clemenza as he spent yesterday picking scallops from ice and was now eating poorly cooked scallops because of Chris as Ramsay told the men to eat all the scallops before restarting unless they wanted to go home. Barbie sent up two portions of overcooked scallops in the red kitchen, and Tiffany accused her of sinking them. Ramsay asked Barbie if she was back in Catalina Island as Robyn accused the former of dooming everything she touched. Ramsay gave out a stern warning to the men in the blue kitchen if anything went wrong on the next order. An embarrassed Justin said they could not keep messing up on scallops before deciding to help fish. However, a dismayed Ramsay saw six men on the fish station cooking scallops and yelled that there were more chefs on that station than there were scallops in the pan before asking how it stupid it was making them look. Despite that, Brian managed to get a scallop order accepted, and a relieved Royce felt the men had their swagger back.

One hour and a half into dinner service, along with 75 wasted scallops, both teams were finished appetizers and moving onto entrées. However, while Robyn had her lamb ready on her station, Barbie was slow on the sea bass and yelled that she needed two minutes. However, Robyn accused Barbie of not know how time worked, even going as far as to believe the latter’s wristwatch did not work. Then, Barbie spitefully walked the sea bass without telling Robyn, nearly erupting an argument until Christina and Danielle stopped them. When Robyn sent up her lamb, it was raw, with Ramsay even added that Barbie’s sea bass was overcooked and asked the two women if they were screwing up in sync. While Robyn argued that she could cook lamb, she felt that Barbie screwed her on the timings as a pissed Tiffany suggested they fire four sea basses for insurance. Chris hoped to redeem himself from the scallop incident in the blue kitchen as he wanted to finish strong but served raw and stone-cold opa. That forced Justin to take back his perfectly cooked Wellingtons. Then, Royce struggled with garnish and growing nervous, with Guy comparing him to a little girl. Then, Ramsay rejected Royce’s mashed potatoes for being bland and stuck to the pan as there was no butter or cream in it. After Royce apologized in the confession, Ramsay said he did not know how to wake him up anymore and that he made Don look good.

Two hours into dinner service, neither kitchen has served any entrées. The women were crumbling as Barbie called out two minutes on her sea bass. Still, Robyn sarcastically asked if it was a real two minutes or a playful two minutes. Then, Ramsay noticed six sea basses being fired. When Tiffany revealed that she told the women to do it, a pissed Ramsay reminded her that fish had to be cooked to order, although she felt it was not her fault. After, Ramsay berated the women for firing more sea bass than was needed and showed them the seventh plate of scallops Barbie ruined. Ramsay kicked the women out of the kitchen and gave Barbie the plate of scallops. When the women returned to the dorms, an argument between Barbie and Robyn erupted as the latter blamed the former for their defeat. Tiffany completely lost it as she screamed profanity before knocking her water bottle off the counter. In the blue kitchen, the men brought up their third attempt on the first entrée order. When Ramsay saw Clemenza’s overcooked steak, he angrily reminded them that he was opening a steakhouse in Las Vegas, gave him the steak, and kicked the men out of the kitchen. A defeated Royce wanted another chance at redemption. With both teams kicked out, James was forced to tell the customers that the restaurant was closing.

Post-mortem[]

When both teams were lined up, a frazzled Ramsay called that evening bizarre and strange before using the words ridiculous and embarrassing for their horrible service. Then, Ramsay added that despite scallops being the dish he expected to be perfect from both kitchens, he got a complete meltdown. Both teams were named joint losers, as Ramsay compared the women to a sinking ship and the men to a runaway train, and they were asked to nominate two each.

During deliberation, Don admitted how confused he was that things went south so badly and compared it to a bomb blowing up. Patrick was pissed that they could not cook scallops properly even after getting a scallop shake yesterday. Justin accused Chris of screwing him over that night. Chris admitted to his earlier mistake on the scallops as Ramsay had high expectations before deciding to man upon his actions that night. With Chris as the men’s first nominee, the women all agreed to nominate Barbie as their first nominee. A pissed Tiffany wanted to see dinner service completed and angrily told Barbie to go home as the women did not want her around. Before Kimmie could go out on Barbie, Christina asked who the second nominee would be as Kimmie was willing to be nominated. As the women wanted to see Barbie go home, Dana decided to nominate Roshni as she felt the latter would not be in trouble, with Robyn, Tiffany, Briana, and Kimmie agreeing with that decision. When Roshni learned that, she felt her performance that night did not warrant a nomination and called it unfair.

The men were still discussing their second nominee back on the patio as Justin suggested Don for struggling on the pizzas. Still, Chris argued that the latter had a better service than himself and Royce. However, Royce challenged the men to nominate him as he would defend his honor as he did not waste either money on Chris’ scallops and Don’s pizzas, respectively. Royce asked how his mashed potatoes warranted a nomination if he did not know what they looked like. However, that irritated Clemenza as Royce, who was close to thirty, had to be shown how to make mashed potatoes. At the same time, Guy called Royce the weakest link for not manning up.

Elimination[]

As both teams walked down to the front, Robyn declared that Barbie was going home that night. Dana announced Barbie as the women’s first nominee and Roshni as their second. In contrast, Guy announced Chris as the men’s first nominee and Royce as their second. During their pleas, Roshni claimed to be a strong chef and was passionate and told Ramsay the only reason she was nominated was to fill out the two required nominations. When Ramsay asked Dana if that was true, the latter claimed they could not agree on who was the worst that night as Tiffany said they all unanimously voted Barbie as the first nominee. After, Barbie admitted to her mistakes and promised to never make them again before calling out Robyn and Kimmie as the weakest chefs of the women. But, when Ramsay asked her why Kimmie was the weakest, Barbie claimed that the former brought down the women’s morale. Still, Robyn argued that Barbie was the one who brought down their morale. Then, Ramsay told Royce that he was gaining a bad reputation. While Royce argued that he had a dedication, Ramsay reminded him how he had to tell him to add cream and butter to his mashed potatoes. While Royce argued that his performance did not warrant a nomination, Ramsay felt that his teammates thought differently. Chris thought he was a strong cook despite feeling frazzled that night, leading Ramsay to sarcastically apologizing to him how a nonstick pan and three scallops frazzled him. In the end, Ramsay sent Roshni and Royce back in line. After a difficult decision between Barbie and Chris, he sent the former back in line to the shock of her teammates. Chris was eliminated for his poor performance on fish and admitting to being frazzled in the early stage of the competition. Chris called Hell’s Kitchen brutal during his exit interview, called Ramsay intimidating, and admitted to cracking under pressure.

After Chris left, Ramsay told the chefs to wake up, and come the next day, he had a huge surprise for them. While being dismissed, Robyn was not happy Barbie survived and planned on making the latter’s life hell. Don was tired of losing and wanted to win either a challenge or a service, and Barbie refused to give up as she planned to be the last one standing.

Ramsay's comment: "I'm sure that Chris prays that he never sees another scallop. And after tonight, I pray I don't see any more of him."
