The eighteen new chefs arrived at Hell's Kitchen, where Marino awaited them. The chefs entered Hell's Kitchen and noticed the past winners from each season before entering the dining room. To give the chefs some inspiration, Ramsay decided to have them walk through the famous doors and have a taste of what it felt like to win. Afterwards, the chefs got to know each other, and Brad declared that the Cuban had arrived. Then, the Sous Chefs arrived, explaining how their time in the competition helped their careers. Afterwards, a guitar player appeared and played the national anthem as four other doors appeared behind the curtain, each figure explaining their journey for the American Dream. After Ramsay stepped out, he welcomed the chefs to the twenty-second season, where they were celebrating the American Dream. Ramsay said the three celebrities the chefs saw were proof of the American Dream and that Hell's Kitchen was part of the American Dream. Ramsay said the winner of that season would become his Head Chef at Hell's Kitchen in Caesars Las Vegas with a salary of $250,000. Then, Ramsay told the chefs that their Signature Dish Challenge was about to begin.

During the Signature Dish Challenge, Brad tried to liven the mood by singing as he cooked, but Jason got annoyed as he thought he needed to shut up and cook as it was a serious situation. When Ryan went up, he was mesmerized by the former's accent. He was the eighth person from the blue team to have his dish judged by Ramsay, and he went up against Sandra. He made a veal cutlet with spaetzle. It was deemed good and scored four points, much to his pleasure. The blue team lost the challenge after a tie at 29 points each. They were punished by participating in delivery day and cleaning up both kitchens. During the punishment, he got annoyed when Jason kept telling the men to work and talk.

As the chefs studied at the dorms, Brad brought up Jason's rude attitude during the punishment and felt the latter was unpleasant.[1] He lost the Creative Scallops Challenge as his dish was not chosen to be in the top three.

When the Sous Chefs went through the menu items, Brad felt overwhelmed by the speed they were going through and felt unconfident. He was at the meat station with Tad during dinner service. On entrées, he and Tad gave inconsistent answers about timing, and Ramsay could not believe it. After Tad served a raw steak, he prayed for Virgil to get himself out of purgatory. Then, he said that Hell's Kitchen was harder than it looked on TV, but he got the refire accepted and felt they would get out of it. On Oscar De La Hoya's order, he and Tad argued over the cook of a chicken breast as Ramsay and Marino waited impatiently for the order. When the entrées went up to the pass, Ramsay discovered raw chicken. Fed up with the fragmented opening night performance, Ramsay kicked the men out of the kitchen and apologized to Hoya as Sous Chef Jason cooked the refire. Back at the dorms, he was mad at Tad for the raw chicken.

Both teams were named joint losers, and they were asked to nominate two each. During deliberation, Jason blamed Tad and Brad on the blue side for getting them kicked out.

Brad was the blue team's second nominee for elimination, with Tad as the first. They were joined by Atoye and Sandra from the red team. During his plea, he wanted to show his passion for cooking and achieve the American Dream. He survived elimination, but Ramsay told him to fight back from mistakes. While being dismissed, he promised to show that the American Dream was inside the Cuban.[2]

Episode 3[]

While returning to the dorms, Brad called being nominated the most humbling and scariest experience he had dealt with, mainly because he had a Cuban mother. As Brad apologized for his performance, Jermaine reassured him that he had a moment and it was over.

During the American Citizen Brunch Service Challenge, Brad was at the egg station with Dahmere. Near the end of service, Brad prepared the eggs for the final order and managed to get them accepted. The blue team won the challenge, and they were rewarded with a Los Angeles-styled pool party at the Godfrey Hotel with a lunch catered by Craig’s. During the reward, he found a cooked piece of chicken on his plate and Mattias jokingly asked him if he cooked it, making the men laugh in response.

During dinner service, Brad was at the appetizer station with Johnathan. As the blue team was in the middle of entrées, he tried to see if he could help after completing appetizers. However, no one wanted his help, as Ryan did not want him to wreck their momentum. Both teams were named joint losers, and they were asked to nominate two each. During deliberation, he said he had a good start to the evening but felt useless because nobody accepted his help. Jason felt he was annoying him, and the latter could not let him ruin his focus on timings. Then, Johnathan told him he should have jumped in to help rather than looking for help.

Brad was the blue team's second nominee for elimination, with Mattias as the first. They joined Donya and Claudia from the red team. During his plea, Ramsay asked him why he was nominated, as most of the problems in the blue kitchen were from the meat station. He said he was too frantic in the kitchen and not contributing enough. He survived elimination after Ramsay sent him back in line. While being dismissed, he was annoyed he was nominated for no reason and felt that some people were showing their true colors.[3]

Episode 4[]

During the American Classics Challenge, Brad went up against Melissa after challenging her claim that she was more American. He picked C, and their dish was a cheeseburger. During the cooking, he was ecstatic to cook a cheeseburger and devised a double patty recipe with an au poivre sauce that Sous Chef Jason liked. He was the first person from the blue team to have his dish judged by Ramsay, and he presented his double cheeseburger with a peppercorn au poivre sauce. Neither Ramsay nor Melissa was impressed with the presentation, as it looked messy. Still, Ramsay said it tasted better than it looked and thought he had the perfect cook. He tied that round with Melissa, and the blue team won the challenge 7-6. They were rewarded with a trip to Santa Barbara with parasailing and dinner at the Hotel Milo.

During dinner service, Brad was at the appetizer station with Devon. He was not seen that night, and the blue team lost the service. They were asked to nominate two people for elimination. During deliberation, he pointed out how Jason lied to Ramsay about the smeared butter. Still, the latter argued he was not lying and thought the men had his back.

He was not nominated for elimination.[4]

Episode 5[]

During the Protein Identification Challenge, Brad was paired up with Jermaine, and they were the third person from the blue team to compete. They got the halibut and veal, and they scarfed down the dish as he accidentally took a bite of the green bean. Chicken and beef were immediately wrong as it was a turf and turf dish, and their second attempt, flounder and pork, was also wrong. As Dahmere got frustrated by his and Jermaine's performance, the duo got their third attempt accepted. The blue team won the challenge 6:39-13:14, and they were rewarded with an axe-throwing experience, with Ramsay joining them.

During dinner service, Brad was at the fish station with Devon. He swore no one was going home after the men got their first order, only for him and Devon failing to serve scallops on the first order. Ramsay asked why neither of them had dropped the scallops earlier, but he admitted it was a communication breakdown. On the refired order, he and Devon got their scallops accepted despite Ramsay's impatience. On entrées, Ramsay caught him not answering back, and the former had him call the order out. He incorrectly called out a six-top table with four items on it and felt his voice getting weak as he kept calling out times. The men's first entrée ticket went out in the blue kitchen as Ramsay told him his halibut was beautiful. But on the following order, Ramsay told the men that the halibut he served was undercooked and had him go outside to look at the HK sign as a reminder of where he was. After he returned, the men worked on the refire. The blue team won the service.[5]

Episode 6[]

Main article: Episode 2206 - Fusion Confusion

Before the Fusion Cuisine Challenge, Brad revealed that he used to play soccer in a little league as a goalie, though Ramsay did not believe he had the height to be one. When he saw Alexi Lalas demonstrate how to hit one of the targets, he was left speechless. He went up against Leigh, and he hit French, while the latter hit Spanish. He was the fifth person from the blue team to have his dish judged and presented his French and Spanish-inspired duck. It was overcooked despite having on-point seasoning, and he lost that round to Leigh. The blue team won the challenge 4-3, and they were rewarded with a day playing bubble soccer and brand-new Keurig sets.

After the blue team returned from their reward, Brad was in pain from getting knocked around in the bubble. He revealed that he had surgery before competing and was not recovering fast enough for the competition. While he refused to give up, he knew his body was giving up on himself. During prep, Devon was worried about his health and that something might happen in the middle of the night. Still, he was determined to push through that night.

During dinner service, Brad was at the meat station with Devon. At one point, he walked up Devon's steak, only for it to come out rare. On the final ticket, he started feeling exhausted and slowing down, nearly leaving the convection oven door open until Ramsay told him to close it. Seeing that he was suffering, Dahmere came to his aid and calmed him down. After service ended, he looked depleted as the men switched off. During the post-mortem, Ramsay asked him how he felt, but he told the former he did not feel good, taking Sandra aback. He told Ramsay that the surgery he received was not healing and that night was detrimental to his body. Ramsay got concerned as the competition was getting fiercer, and he said he was not getting well because his body was giving up on him. Seeing that he would not continue in the competition, Ramsay allowed him to leave Hell’s Kitchen through the front doors. After he handed Ramsay his jacket, the remaining chefs gave him a standing ovation for his determination, while Johnathan was hurt to see him go like that. During his exit interview, he acknowledged that he gave everything in Hell’s Kitchen, but his body was not 100%, and he did not want to ignore it. Ramsay gave no comment on his departure, and he did not receive the coat hanging and portrait burning sequence.[6]
