When he arrived at Los Angeles International Airport, Barret said that cooking was what he was born to do and that he had to pinch himself to make sure he was not dreaming as he still could not believe he was there. On the bus, Ramsay surprisingly told the chefs to meet him in Las Vegas. Arriving there, they were greeted by showgirls, got on a double-decker bus for a tour of the city, and eventually got tricked into believing they would go on a Las Vegas 4D experience. However, they arrived in front of a live audience, where Ramsay was waiting for them. When he saw that, he sarcastically asked to get the fuck out of here as it was awesome.

During the Signature Dish Challenge, Barret was the first person from the blue team to have his dish judged by Ramsay and went up against Danielle. Before Ramsay tasted his dish, he asked him to turn around and reveal the Hell's Kitchen logo designed on his head with his hair. He served his pork loin roulade with fresh spinach, pine nuts, Shiitake mushrooms with roasted garlic potato and shallots. When tasting it, Ramsay immediately noticed the great amount of garlic in the dish. He asked him to taste it while adding that he did not wonder why his hair was standing up. Neither he nor Danielle scored a point.

The blue team eventually lost the challenge 4-5. They were punished with an eight-hour school bus ride from Las Vegas to Hell's Kitchen, in the desert, without air conditioning. Barret was annoyed by Sebastian's constant talking during the punishment, even considering throwing the latter off the window. The next day, during prep, the men were focused and working as a team.[1]

During dinner service, Barret was at the meat station with Michael. He decided to work on Wellingtons, and on his first attempt, they were slightly undercooked. When Michael's lamb was rejected, he was disappointed that he had to fire another Wellington. When he was ready with his perfectly cooked Wellingtons, he was dismayed as Michael still needed more time for his lamb to be ready. He told Michael that he could not make his Wellingtons rest longer and that he had to walk, much to Michael's annoyance. However, they were overcooked as he let them rest for too long, angering him. When Sebastian came back after being kicked out, he became the second person from the blue team to be kicked out, along with Michael. While going back to the dorms, he angrily threw his rag on the wall while saying he was pissed as he did not do anything to be kicked out of the kitchen.

The blue team lost the service, and they were asked to nominate two people for elimination. During deliberation, Barret considered Michael by recalling when he was not ready with the lamb and told him not to send his Wellingtons. He questioned Michael's position as an executive chef.

He was not nominated for elimination.[2]

The following day, some soldiers from the US army came into Hell's Kitchen, went to the dorms, and gave a very brutal wake-up call to the chefs by screaming and yelling to get up. When the teams were challenged to climb up the wall, Barret was impressed during the soldiers' demo, asking what they had to do next. He showed some great athleticism while going over the wall and managed to get some lobsters in his team's bucket. The blue team managed to get 37 lobsters in their bucket, compared to the red team's 31 but did not win anything as that was only the first part of the challenge.

During the Lobster Cleaning Challenge, Barret was paired with Anthony. He was seen carrying most of the things as his partner sprained his ankle while climbing the wall. Together, they scored the first point for the blue team and scored another one near the end. However, the blue team eventually lost the challenge 8-11. They were punished by taking a delivery of thousands of pounds of halibut and branzino and prepping them for the next service. Before the lunch, he declared he was starving until he discovered the men were served fish head soup.

During dinner service, Barret was on the garnish station with Dan. He was not seen much, except when he tried to help Christian who was struggling on fish, along with Dan. The blue team was eventually kicked out of the kitchen after a lot of mistakes. Both teams were named joint-losers, and they were asked to nominate two people each.

He was not nominated for elimination.[3]

Episode 4[]

The following day, Barret answered the phone and Sous Chef Andi told him to get everybody outside. Arrived outside, the chefs saw Ramsay, dressed in a running suit, and many runners waiting in front of a start/finish line. He introduced the HK3K Service Challenge, and during prep, he, along with Michael, checked on Dan when the latter arrived at his first checkpoint during the race. When Dan arrived, he helped him to catch up on the menu. During the challenge, he was not seen much, except when he guaranteed the blue team would win the challenge.

The blue team eventually lost the challenge. They were punished by cleaning the HK3K course, including erasing the paint, breaking down the checkpoints, picking the trash, and finally, prepping both kitchens ahead of the following service. During the punishment, when the women rubbed salt in the men's wound before their reward, Barret told them off, and while prepping, he told his teammates he was done.

During dinner service, Barret was on the appetizer station with Ray. On the first ticket, he expressed concern over Ray because of his age and memory and reminded him that dinner service was not the room for errors. When Ramsay asked for the risotto, he answered it was coming, and when Ray brought it to the pass, it was accepted. Both celebrated by giving each other a high-five, but it was later returned for undercooked rice. The blue team eventually won the service for finally showing some progress.[4]

Episode 5[]

During the Protein Identification Challenge, Barret was paired with Jeremy. They were the third pair to compete for the blue team. During Michael and Jon's turn, he was concerned because they were constantly running back and forth. On their turn, they landed on the duck enchiladas. They got the right protein on their fifth attempt after incorrectly guessing pork, venison, buffalo, and veal.

The blue team eventually lost the challenge 10:33-6:37, and they were punished by taking deliveries of wheat flour, grinding it, and making bread from scratch. During the punishment, Barret declared that it sucked and that he wanted to be in Malibu at the moment, and later, he stopped caring after milling the wheat. When Jeremy collapsed on the counter, he called for a medic. While baking the dough at 4 am, he was seen still really tired and yawned while being at the convection oven.

When Ramsay ordered everybody to get to the dining room, Barret acknowledged that they should move quickly as something would go down when Ramsay was asking for something. While prepping for the breakfast service, he was asked a lot of questions by Jeremy. During breakfast service, he was assigned as a floater. He was not seen much, except when Jeremy was oblivious about what was happening, so he ordered him to make more croissants and mimicked his oblivion face. The blue team won the service as they served all their tickets before the red team and celebrated by hugging each other.[5]

Episode 6[]

While going back to the dorms, Barret expressed surprise that Ramsay eliminated somebody from the winning team, even though it was a blessing in disguise as Jeremy was useless. He acknowledged that everything was happening for a reason.

Later that day, during prep, Barret was annoyed by Dan asking him many questions, saying that he should either man up or get out. During the break, he mimicked some punching moves while Nedra was threatening the men, and when both teams were lined up, he was assigned as a waiter. He declared that he had no time as it took a half-hour to get his hair done properly. Arrived in the dining room, Jean-Philippe was shocked by his haircut. He declared that his confidence level was very high as he has been a waiter for six years.

When the first tables arrived, Barret was slow to take his order and was called a lizard by Ramsay. The latter yelled at him, saying he needed some tickets and needed to show some energy. When he delivered his first ticket, Ramsay was dismayed by his bad handwriting and showed the ticket to the blue team. So, he was ordered to rewrite the ticket. Ramsay ripped the ticket and ordered him and Jean-Philippe to go back to Belgium. In the dining room, Jean-Philippe told him that it was not rocket science. Still, he was annoyed and said that he just wanted to grab Jean-Philippe and crush him like a fly, but that he could not do that. When he sent his second attempt at his first ticket, it was still not acceptable. Michael called him a stupid asshole, Anthony said that the whole team was riding on his shoulders, and Ramsay ripped the ticket one more time, saying that the next mistake he would make, he would be history. Before he returned to the dining room, Ramsay said that his tickets looked dreadful despite his hair looking beautiful. He was tired of being taken down like that by Ramsay, got motivated by Jean-Philippe, and declared that he would write like a bitch if he had to. When he finally delivered his first ticket to his team, he was pleased. Because of his teammates' mistakes, he had to deal with impatient customers, apologizing to many tables while making some of his customers laugh. Later, when he entered the blue kitchen, Ramsay asked him to tell his team what he was waiting on, which he did. Then, he was asked if he understood how painful it was, to which he agreed.

After many mistakes, the blue team was kicked out of the kitchen, both teams were named joint-losers, and they were asked to nominate two people each. Barret took a little part in the argument between Ray and Dan before Zach calmed the situation down during deliberation.

He was not nominated for elimination.[6]

Episode 7[]

The next day, both teams went to the dining room, where Ramsay introduced the Chinese Dish Creation Challenge and the Samurai statue that was placed there. When the countdown began, everybody ran to the plate of fortune cookies in front of the statue. When they arrived, it started moving, making everybody flinch and laugh. Then, Sous Chef James brought the blue team's basket of giant fortune cookies that would be carried with chopsticks, and during the first part, Barret was not seen much. During the second part, he was paired with Zach, and they worked on the spring rolls course. He was the third person from the blue team to have his dish judged, his zesty-lime spring rolls were praised for being very imaginative, and he won the round over Nedra.

The blue team won the challenge 4-3, Barret was extremely relieved about that, and they were rewarded with a paintball activity. During the reward, he decided to target Dan, and he was the one who succeeded in shooting him. When they returned from their reward, he declared that it was time to get serious again about knocking the service out.

During dinner service, Barret was at the fish station. He was confident as he was used to cooking fish a lot, but when Dan reminded him not to mess up the chef's table's order, he called him an asshole and told him he should shut up. When he sent his shrimps to the pass, they were raw, he was disappointed in himself, and Ramsay berated the blue team for serving that in front of the chef's table. Later, his second attempt at the chef's table's halibut was accepted, but at one point, he had timing problems with Dan. Ramsay reminded him that he was on fish to be tested. Still, when he sent his halibut to the pass, it contained a piece of parchment paper for a group of older ladies. Because of that, Ramsay called him a joke while telling him that he should have been ashamed, to which he agreed. Eventually, the blue team served all of their tickets, and the service was completed.

Both teams were named joint-losers, and they were asked to nominate their two weakest chefs each. During deliberation, Barret was considered by Jon for his poor performance on fish, to which Dan agreed. Still, he did not think that he deserved to be eliminated and believed Ray should be nominated for backing up on tableside before calling him the weakest link because of his age and possible memory loss.

Barret was not nominated for elimination. When Dan declared that he should have been, he disagreed by revealing that the blue team based their decision on overall performance.[7]

Episode 8[]

Main article: Episode 1108 - 14 Chefs Compete

The following day, both teams went to the dining room, and they were taken outside by Ramsay, who introduced the Farm Animal Challenge. During the first part of the challenge, Barret was the second person from the blue team who entered the pen, and he chose a pork and yam combination. He was the fourth person from the blue team to have his dish judged, presented his pan-seared pork, which was cooked perfectly, he called himself a beast. He easily won the round over Amanda, with both Ramsay and John Shook just needing to look at it, and he was extremely proud of himself. During Michael's turn, he said that the latter needed to prove that he was the chef he claimed he was and was disappointed when his dish was criticized heavily.

The blue team lost the challenge 2-3. They were punished by putting together a petting zoo and making sure that the animals would be comfortable for the next service. Barret disagreed when Dan thought that his dish would have helped the blue team win and mimicked him during the punishment. Later, he called Dan a little bitch as he was whining about everything, said he should shut up, and suggested that he eat the food they prepared for the animals as he might be hungry. Still, Dan did not find the joke funny.

During the Family Night dinner service, Barret was at the meat station. When the blue team moved on to entrées, he sliced his lamb, but it was still raw, so he had to put it back in the oven for thirty more seconds. Then, he wondered what he was doing wrong, knew that he had to figure it out quickly, but he decided to send his lamb despite knowing that it was raw. He was criticized by Ramsay for that mistake, much to Dan's amusement, and he was ordered to put it back in the oven. After being motivated by his teammates, his second attempt was accepted. Moments later, he was ready with his chicken but still needed a second opinion, so Jon came over to check the chicken, and the latter told him that it would not be accepted. He acknowledged that he was dragging the chicken, Ramsay pushed him to go faster while he put his chicken back in the oven. After the blue team received help from the red team, he sent his chicken, but it was raw. Then, it was revealed that the order of chicken was for Sous Chef James' pregnant wife, and because of that, he declared that he could not look at Sous Chef James in the eyes as he knew he had a black belt in taekwondo. Eventually, all of the entrées were served, the service was completed, but he was extremely embarrassed about his performance.

The blue team lost the service by a mile, and they were asked to nominate their two weakest chefs. Jon considered Barret for serving raw chicken to Sous Chef James' pregnant wife during deliberation. He admitted his mistakes by saying that he should have checked his chicken repeatedly before considering Dan for not being a team player. Moments later, he said that all Dan did was complaining before the latter threatened to punch him in the face.

Barret was the blue team's first nominee for elimination, with Dan being the second. During his plea, he was told that he should be getting stronger considering how far into Hell's Kitchen he had gotten, and he responded that he was. Still, Ramsay did not believe him as he thought that Barret was going backwards and that he did not seem to give a shit. Barret retorted that he did and that it was not just about his fancy hair, but Ramsay stated that the former had a funny way of showing it. Barret survived elimination, and while being dismissed, he tearfully stated that winning Hell's Kitchen was his dream and that Ramsay's accusations of him not caring bothered him.[8]

Episode 9[]

While going back to the dorms, Barret guaranteed that he would turn the heat up on himself. He admitted that he made very stupid mistakes and let Ramsay and his teammates down while crying. He declared that he was there to win Hell's Kitchen and that he would do something crazy to show Ramsay that he deserved to be there if that was what needed to be done. He went to the bathroom to shave his head.

The following day, both teams went to the dining room, where they were greeted by Ramsay, who immediately noticed that Barret was completely shaved. He took his hat off, revealed his entirely shaved head, putting everybody in a state of disbelief. When Ramsay asked him what happened, he answered that he was ready to work as it was about his passion for food and not his looks, an answer that Ramsay appreciated. After, the Steak Creation Challenge was introduced. During the challenge, he was caressing his hanger by rubbing black garlic on it as he enjoyed working with it and knew exactly what to do to make his hanger shine. Still, Zach thought that he was about to have an orgasm. Moments later, he expressed confidence that the blue team would win the challenge as men were eating and cooking steaks a lot. He was the fifth person from the blue team to have his dish judged, served his black garlic-rubbed hanger, but it was overcooked, and he lost the round to Ja'Nel.

The blue team lost the challenge 3-4, and they were punished by taking a delivery of a giant cut of beef and prepping it for the next service. During the punishment, it was revealed that the cut of beef was a whole cow, and Barret called it another day in Hell. When the red team came back from their reward, the men were prepping their kitchen. During the break, he was targeted by Zach for screwing up during the challenge. Still, he was annoyed as he knew he fucked up and did not need anybody to remind him he did.

During the Steak Night dinner service, Barret was on the garnish station. When the first ticket was called, nothing was supposed to be cooked, but he was caught frying crab cakes, much to Ramsay's dismay. When he was reminded that the crab cakes were still frying, he took them out of the fryer and acknowledged that he had to listen to what Ramsay was saying. When the blue team moved on to entrées, he was feeling overwhelmed as he had to make a lot of things at the same time, wished that somebody would get him out of there, sent his crab cakes to the pass. Still, Ramsay reminded him that he had to bring the salad that was going with it as well. When he sent his crab cakes salad to the pass, he still had to send the hanger garnishes, and after sending them, he was exhausted. The blue team won the service.[9]

Episode 10[]

The next day, Barret's picture of himself as a teenager was shown. When it was announced Hell's Kitchen was hosting a Quinceañera, he got concerned as he struggled to pronounce the name. During the Quinceañera Planning Challenge, he wanted to do macaroni and cheese sticks and looked for hot sauce. As he explained, Brianna was Spanish but forgot that she hated spicy food. He cooked the hot appetizer, was the second person from the blue team to have his dish judged, and went up against Cyndi. He made fried macaroni and cheese balls, but the sauce was criticized for tasting like hot sauce, with Cyndi asking if the boys even listened. He lost that round to Cyndi.

The blue team lost the challenge 2-3. They were punished with decorating the dining room for the Quinceañera under Josette's instructions. Barret felt he was starting to lose it due to all their defeats. During the punishment, he suggested that he should then glue his manhood back together while working on the dolls and called Josette a crazy person for trying to make them work to her standards. He and Josette argued about the chairs, resulting in him about to break a chair until Ray stopped him. Fortunately, he revealed he was only kidding and promised his teammates he would not break down.

During the Quinceañera dinner service, Barret was at the fish station. At one point, he sent up raw linguine with no spinach and too much oil but got the refire accepted, and the men served their part of the head table. Later, he knew that he started out rough from the raw linguine but wanted to fight back. Unfortunately, he sent up overcooked kebabs with a burnt splinter in a piece, frustrating Ramsay to no end as he asked him what he was doing. While he argued that he was not letting the men down, Anthony ordered him to get it together as he felt he should slap himself for two years due to the pasta incident. Fortunately, his refires were accepted. Both teams were named joint losers, and they were asked to nominate two each. Jon and Ray considered him for elimination during deliberation, but that pissed him off as it meant the points he got in the challenges did not mean anything to the team.

Barret was the blue team's first nominee for elimination, with Zach as the second. They joined Amanda and Cyndi from the red team. He felt he could get back up a hundred times during his plea if he were knocked down, as going home was not an option. After Amanda's elimination, Ramsay announced that he was not done yet as the episode ended as a cliffhanger.[10]

Episode 11[]

Continuing from the previous episode, Ramsay gave Barret 10 seconds to explain what the competition meant to him. He stated that working for Ramsay was why he started cooking and that he would never give up. However, he was eliminated for his fourth inconsistent performance, mistakes, and significant downfall. During his exit interview, he claimed that although he was unhappy with the decision, he could not be that upset as he did everything he could but couldn't learn fast enough for Ramsay. Ramsay gave no comment on his elimination, and he did not receive the coat hanging and portrait burning sequence.[11]
